Position Summary:

In conjunction with the Dietary Cook, the prep cook assists in the preparation, portioning and serving all necessary menu items in accordance with established standards, serve the meal attractively and at proper temperature. Individual also assists in leading the dietary department to achieve results in providing excellent resident care and good customer relations. Assists dietary director and manager in strategic planning and problem solving. Monitors activities within dietary department to ensure compliance with state and federal guidelines.

Essential Functions:
  • Regular, punctual attendance.
  • Employs proper food handling techniques.
  • Menu will dictate pre-work.
  • Prepare all food items designated in job description as menu directs.
  • Set up special foods per resident food preference request as approved by Dietetic Technician.
  • Assist in tray line services during meals.
  • May be assigned to assist in the routine preparations of foods for the next or advanced meals.
  • Labels and properly stores all food items.
  • Keeps work area clean and orderly assist with cleaning duties.
  • Willing to perform other duties if need should arise.
  • Uses proper infection control techniques and protective equipment as needed.
  • Performs all duties using proper safety techniques.
  • Essential to attend and participate in in-service education opportunities.
  • Assists cook with food prep as directed. Performs related and other duties as assigned.
  • Assists in helping with catering duties when needed, onsite or offsite.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
