Job description

AMETEK Specialty Metal Products (SMP) Wallingford is a US -based pioneer in the manufacturer of High Purity Metal Strip, Specialty Shaped Wire, Engineered Shaped Components and Thermal Management Materials. With more than 50 years of experience, AMETEK SMP Wallingford has numberous patents in technically advanced metallurgical materials and is a global leader in High Purity Materials via Wrought Powder Metallurgy. 

AMETEK is seeking a Maintenance Technician/Electrician who performs maintenance on production equipment and facilities including the following duties. We are looking for a licensed electrician for this role! The role will report to the Maintenance Manager at the Wallingford CT facility. This role is on first shift 7a - 3p. The pay range starting at $38 depending on experience and license.

Essential Duties:

  • Maintains and repairs all mechanical equipment in facility.
  • Inspects, repairs and performs overhauls on mechanical drives/motors, motors, pneumatic and hydraulic components, motor control center devices, and conveyor systems.
  • Performs basic machine shop duties such as grinding, drilling, metal fabrication, welding and machining.
  • Conducts basic installation, maintenance, and modification on equipment and control systems.
  • Performs troubleshooting and repair of motor control centers, electro-mechanical drives and sub-electrical panels using volt-ohm-amp meters.
  • Available for rotating on call duty during weekends to address emergencies.
  • Conducting electrical repairs using 3 phase electricity.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills:

  • Skilled in the use of tools, machines and testing instruments used in the repair and overhaul of plant equipment.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the basic operating principles of electrical, hydraulic, mechanical, pneumatic/vacuum systems and components.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards, safety precautions and inspection techniques of repairing and operating equipment in a food-manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to read, interpret and work from blue prints, technical sketches, manuals, and schematics in repair and overhaul of equipment and facilities.
  • Ability and willingness to use knowledge, creativity, and initiative in continuously improving bottom line results.
  • Ability and willingness to further develop skills and ability through formal education and practical internal and external training programs.
  • Elementary understanding of basic electrical maintenance with PLC and repair.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma.
  • 2+ years experience in the maintenance and repair of industrial equipment preferably in a steel processing environment.
  • 3+ experience in  electricial work in an heavy industrial or heavy manufacturing environment. 
  • A valid electrician license whether C-5, E-1 or Journeyperson.

Physical Requirements:

  • This position requires walking, standing, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, seeing, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
  • Ability to work around and on industrial equipment.
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment (e.g., forklift, scissor lift, front-end loader, payloader)
  • Ability to ascend and descend stairs and ladders.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on a frequent basis.
  • Must be willing to work around dust, chemicals, and other substances.
  • Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including but not limited to: hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, steel-toed boots, and hearing protection.
  • Able to assist with as an elected emergency responder with other maintenance technicians.
