Job Title
On-Call Surgical Technology Lab Assistant (Applicant Pool)
Job Summary
The On-Call Surgical Technology Lab Assistant will be responsible for maintaining the Surgical Services laboratories. This includes working with program faculty to assist with inventory organization, purchase, and set-up for class and other special events.
Job Duties
The On-Call Surgical Technology Lab Assistant will perform the following job duties:
  • Prepare lab for planned student activities.
  • Assist instructor needs before, during, and after class.
  • Assist with clean up after activities.
  • Maintain inventory control of supplies and equipment.
  • Assist with student lab and open lab activities.
  • Adhere to FERPA polies regarding student confidentiality.
  • Comply with OSHA guidelines.
  • Performs additional duties assigned by Program Director.

Required Qualifications
  1. Associate degree, with emphasis in Surgical Technology.
  2. Current CST (Certified Surgical Technologist) credentials.
  3. Previous or current work experience as a surgical technologist.

Preferred Qualifications
  1. Bachelor's degree.
  2. Two (2) years of experience working in the operating room and/or instructing, within the last five (5) years.
  3. Knowledge of the curriculum and student performance evaluation.

  • Communication Skills: Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from prospective and current employees, and groups of managers.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide with all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • Office Environment: This role may involve being in a stationary position in front of a computer, using a keyboard, mouse (or applicable equipment) and telephone. This role may also involve standing and walking for periods of time, and the use of hands and moving objects on occasion, of up to 10-20 lbs., and occasionally up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities required may include close vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus.
