Job description

THE OPPORTUNITY
The Pool Maintenance position is responsible for the testing, monitoring, cleaning, etc. of the college's pool.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
  • Vacuum pool at appropriate time as to not interfere with daily pool activities.
  • Perform all required testing four times a day, record and maintain clear records of testing on proper record keeping forms.
  • Back wash pool filters, monitor and adjust chemical feeding pumps.
  • Perform shock and buffer treatment to the pool, remove lane dividers from pool.
  • Maintain pool deck clean sweeps, mops and auto scrubs; keep deck clear of any items that could create safety concerns.
  • Maintain proper signage and emergency numbers visible in the pool area as required by state law; periodically check safety kits and remind athletic director of items that might have expired or need to be replaced.
  • Keep pool records and other items required by the State in an area that will be accessible by pool inspectors as they do frequent inspections throughout the year, at times without notice.
  • Request all necessary supplies and chemicals from housekeeping supervisor or manager in order to maintain the area.
  • Initiate all work orders relating to the pool.
  • Assist in draining and filling the pool, when necessary.
  • Perform other custodial duties, as assigned by the supervisor in accordance with the custodian's job description.

WHAT EDUCATION AND SKILLS YOU WILL NEED
  • Certified pool operator with knowledge of state pool operating rules and regulations with working knowledge of pool chemical testing; will attend safety training as required by Management.
  • At least some related experience and/or training or an equivalent combination of education and experience and knowledge of mathematical equations.
  • Must be able to function well in a team/community environment, displaying common courtesies and politeness; frequently interacts with students, teachers, co-workers and administrators.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, material safety data sheets (MSDS), testing kits, mathematical skills and procedure instructions or manuals.
  • Ability to write out routine reports, fill out equipment logs and provide descriptions of problems and needs.
  • Ability to maintain a good working relationship with town board of health inspector, athletic department, the swim coach and students.

HOW AND WHERE YOU WILL WORK
Must have had a valid unrestricted U.S. Driver's License for one year, and maintain throughout employment an insurable (as determined by the College's insurer's criteria) or a satisfactory driving record; must successfully complete and pass the College's vehicle training program within the first 60 days of employment; annual or more frequent review of employee's driving record based on the College insurer's criteria; and safety training as required by management.
A. Physical Environment:
  • Regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.
  • Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts; high precarious places; hazardous chemicals; outside weather conditions; and extreme heat.
  • Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
  • Usually moderate noise level.

B. Physical Demands:
  • Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, feel, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, talk or hear, and smell.
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
  • Regularly climb and/or balance up to 10 feet and frequently climb and or balance up to 20 feet.
  • Regular use of close vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus

ADDITIONAL SKILLS YOU MAY HAVE
  • Two years of cleaning experience and pool maintenance desired.

This position is Sunday - Thursday from 10PM - 6:30AM
This is a union position with an hourly rate of $31.99. This position includes paid sick leave where required by law. Eligibility, accrual, and usage will follow applicable state and local regulations.
