Description
Position Overview
The Corporate Controller serves as the senior accounting leader for a $400-$500 million multi-site food manufacturing organization. This position is responsible for all accounting operations, financial reporting, internal controls, cost accounting, treasury support, compliance, and accounting team leadership across three manufacturing locations.
The position partners closely with the CFO, plant leadership teams, operations, supply chain, sales, and executive leadership to ensure financial integrity, operational excellence, and informed business decision-making. This role combines strategic leadership with hands-on execution in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Accounting Leadership
  • Lead all corporate accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, payroll accounting, and cost accounting.
  • Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process.
  • Ensure timely and accurate preparation of financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
  • Develop and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Coordinate external audits and annual financial statement preparation.
  • Ensure compliance with all accounting standards, tax regulations, and reporting requirements.

Multi-Site Manufacturing Finance Oversight
  • Provide accounting leadership across three manufacturing facilities.
  • Partner with Plant Controllers and Operations Leadership to ensure consistency in financial reporting and controls.
  • Review facility performance, cost trends, labor utilization, production variances, and inventory accuracy.
  • Establish standardized accounting practices and reporting processes across locations.

Cost Accounting & Inventory Management
  • Maintain and enhance standard costing methodologies.
  • Oversee product costing, bill of material integrity, and inventory valuation.
  • Analyze manufacturing variances, including labor, material usage, yield, scrap, overhead absorption, and production efficiencies.
  • Review profitability by product, customer, and business segment.

Internal Controls & Compliance
  • Design, implement, and continuously improve financial controls and risk management practices.
  • Ensure compliance with audit requirements, lender reporting obligations, and corporate governance standards.
  • Lead remediation efforts related to audit findings and control improvements.
  • Support food industry regulatory and customer audit requirements as applicable to financial processes.

Strategic Business Partnership
  • Partner with the CFO and Executive Team to provide actionable financial insights.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and long-range financial planning processes.
  • Support capital investment analysis, ROI modeling, and major project evaluations.
  • Assist with acquisitions, integrations, and strategic growth initiatives as needed.
  • Support ERP optimization, financial reporting automation, and business intelligence initiatives.
  • Mentor and develop future finance leaders within the organization.

Cash Flow, Treasury & Working Capital
  • Monitor working capital performance and cash flow drivers.
  • Support banking relationships, lender reporting, and covenant compliance.
  • Oversee cash management practices and liquidity forecasting.
  • Drive improvements in receivables, payables, and inventory management.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required. CPA and MBA preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting and finance leadership experience.
  • Minimum 5 years in a Controller, Assistant Controller, or senior accounting leadership role in $250M+ manufacturing environment, preferably multi-site.
  • Manufacturing experience required; food manufacturing strongly preferred.
  • Strong background in manufacturing cost accounting and inventory management.
  • Experience leading external audits and complex accounting operations.
  • Experience with ERP systems such as Sage X3, SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, or similar.
  • Expert understanding of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple facilities and priorities simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Advanced Excel and financial systems proficiency.
  • Experience building KPIs, dashboards, and financial reporting packages.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to connect operational activity to financial results.
