GENERAL SUMMARY: RN Registered Nurse, Operating Room - Henry Ford Providence Novi Hospital

Henry Ford Providence Novi has 18 rooms in 2 sites. Here at Novi we do everything with the exception of Bariatrics, Transplants and CVOR (open heart). We are heavy on orthopedics, neuro spine and brain and Neurotology. Orthopedics includes total joints and scopes for knee, hips and shoulders. We use the Makoplasty robot for the majority of total knee surgeries as well as the occasional hip surgery. Neuro spine and brain include multiple neurosurgeons who perform spine surgery, brain surgery for tumor, bleeds and aneurysms. There are also orthopedic spine surgeons. Neurotology is performed by the MEI group (Michigan Ear Institution). This is a large group that specializes in surgeries that may not be seen at other institutions. These include acoustic neuromas, cochlear implants, BAHA (bone anchored hearing aids) as well tympanomastoid surgeries. There are multiple ENT surgeons who perform sinus surgeries as well as thyroidectomies, radical neck dissections and the regular ENT type surgeries. Robotic surgery includes, general (hernia, gallbladder etc.), hysterectomies and prostatectomies.
Job Description:
  • Provides leadership in the coordination and delivery of quality compassionate patient care.
  • Utilizes the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation, to provide, delegate, supervise and document care and teaching of patients and family.
  • Effectively communicates pertinent patient/family information to health care team.
  • Participates in finding solutions for variances from patient goals and ensures implementation of solutions.
  • Deliver professional nursing care in the operative setting to patients undergoing surgical or other invasive procedures.
  • Perform scrub functions including the selection and handling of instruments and supplies used during procedure.
  • Perform circulating functions including monitoring, recording and communicating patient condition and managing overall nursing care of patient before, during and after procedure.
  • Directly assist operating physician with surgical tasks including hemostasis, suturing and wound exposure as well as patient positioning.
  • Prepare operating rooms and surgical instruments and equipment for use.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
  • BSN preferred. Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Clinical knowledge and analytical abilities necessary to formulate effective nursing care plans.
  • Ability to perform a wide variety of professional nursing services.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with patients, families, and hospital personnel.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:
  • Current licensure by the Michigan State Board of Nursing.
  • 2-years of OR experience preferred.
