Department Summary

The Division of Student Life supports the university's academic mission and strategic plan through comprehensive programs and services that promote and advance student learning and success while fostering an inclusive and vibrant campus community. Student Life includes four major portfolios, the Office of the Dean of Students, Experiential Learning & Engagement, Health & Wellbeing, and Division Administration. Key programs and departments within the division include but are not limited to University Health Services, Erb Memorial Union, Physical Education & Recreation, Parent and Family Programs, Major Student Events (Commencement, Homecoming, University Day), Fraternity and Sorority Life, Counseling, Health Promotion, Community and Belonging, Student Government Engagement & Success, Student Conduct and Community Standards, and Support for Students in Crisis and Students of Concern.
University Health Services (UHS) is a unit within the Division of Student Life and is a nationally accredited (AAAHC) outpatient clinic providing primary care to students at the University of Oregon. All staff are required to uphold the values of the UHS.
This position works in support of the University Health Services mission and vision and is consistent with UO policy. Some aspects of this position may be completed in collaboration with other University departments.

Position Summary

The Assistant Director, Human Resources is responsible for the planning, administration, and directing of operations, programs, and policies for all UHS human resources functions. This includes managing recruitment, selection and hiring processes, compensation, classification, employee succession planning and management development, employee relations and conflict resolution, payroll and travel functions, onboarding and offboarding processes, development and implementation of HR policies, and management of personnel files. This position provides collaborative and consultative advice and counsel to UHS executive leadership, and Student Life Division Human Resources Partners Group on various aspects of human resources and payroll management matters. This position serves as a resource on the SEIU and UO Student Worker Union collective bargaining agreements, personnel rules interpretation, use, and compliance, and best practices with HR policies and practices. The Assistant Director, Human Resources, serves as a key link between the UHS, Student Life Division, UO Human Resources, UKG Payroll Administrators, and other related departments and professional groups on campus.
This position reports to the UHS Director of Finance & Business Operations, is a member of the UHS Leadership Team, and is responsible for supervising UHS administrative staff members.
Due to our clinical environment, this position requires successful completion of a criminal background check and routine screening of Medicaid and Medicare Exclusion Lists. Employee loses eligibility for employment if on the List of Excluded Individuals and Entities (LEIE) and/or System of Award Management (SAM). In addition, employee must be in compliance with UHS policies regarding tuberculosis screening, measles and mumps (MMR), seasonal flu, hepatitis B, and other immunization requirements.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor's degree OR an equivalent combination of skills, experience, or education
Five years' experience in human resources administration
One year of experience leading or supervising the work of professional staff

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with human resources management in a healthcare setting, including interpreting HR policies and procedures
Current SHRM-CP certification, PHR certification, or higher
Experience working with employees represented by collective bargaining units
Experience working with a Talent Management System
Experience working with Human Resources Information System (HRIS)
Experience working in a HIPAA compliant setting
Experience working in higher education
