Job description

COMMERCIAL/AG LOAN OFFICER

Job Summary:

This position is responsible for soliciting, negotiating, underwriting, collecting, and coordinating the closing of all commercial, agriculture, and business loans in compliance with the bank’s lending policies and procedures. This position provides support to the bank President in areas of leadership, direction, and development, and supports the lending department. The Commercial/Ag Loan Officer solicits other bank products to establish and maintain profitable bank relationships with all customers and prospective customers.

Essential Functions:

  • Meet with loan applicants to identify their needs and collect information for loan applications.
  • Analyze active loan files regularly and monitor credit; and quality of loans that have already been made.
  • Complete loan contracts and counsel clients on loan terms and repayment expectations.
  • Interview applicants to define financial eligibility and recommend risk ratings according to loan policy.
  • Submit loan applications promptly.
  • Prepare detailed loan proposals utilizing the bank’s credit analysis software.
  • Reject loan applications that do not qualify and explain deficiencies to applicants.
  • Respond to applicant’s questions and resolve any loan-related issues.
  • Operate in compliance with laws and regulations.
  • Attend training as required and/or recommended by supervisor.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining lending policies consistent with those established by the bank.
  • Build and maintain relationships with community and civic groups and represent the bank at related events.
  • Provide leadership and support for meeting the overall bank goals and objectives.
  • Provides leadership, training, and support to less experienced loan officers and other staff members.
  • Assist with the solicitation of all deposit-related products.
  • Assist with developing workflow processes to allow for empowerment and delegation.
  • Participate in regular meetings with branch personnel.
  • Assist customers with difficult questions or financial institution concerns.
  • Stays abreast of regulations and legislation, as well as other political and policymaking events that directly affect the bank.

Qualifications/Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Ag, or a similar field is preferred.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience as a loan officer.
  • Solid understanding of credit risk and analysis.
  • Solid understanding of local, state, and federal loan regulations.
  • In-depth knowledge of computers and banking software.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Customer service-oriented with exceptional sales skills.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
