About the Team: The T485 Line team seeks to support the mission of BJU Press by ensuring high-quality book production runs smoothly from start to finish. Our team works together to keep the press operating efficiently, manage workflow, and deliver finished products on schedule. Each member supports the line in unique ways, from operating and maintaining the press, to packaging and preparing finished books for the next stage of distribution.
Role Summary: As a T485 Line Operator at BJU Press, the ideal candidate will play a supporting role on the T485 Line team by working alongside the Operator III, T485 to support the successful operation of the HP T485 Digital Press and Muller Martini binding line. This position is expected to independently perform increasingly complex operational tasks, assist with troubleshooting, monitor production performance, and help maintain quality, efficiency, and workflow throughout the line. The Level 2 Operator is developing toward full line operation by mastering the technical knowledge, decision-making, and operational responsibilities of Operator III, T485.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Safely operate the HP T485 Digital Press and connected Muller Martini binding line in accordance with established procedures, work instructions, and safety standards.
  • Independently operate, set up, adjust, and monitor equipment to achieve production, quality, waste, and efficiency goals.
  • Perform routine troubleshooting and resolve common equipment and process issues with minimal supervision.
  • Identify production abnormalities and take appropriate corrective action or escalate issues when necessary.
  • Perform product changeovers while ensuring equipment readiness and product quality.
  • Support preventive maintenance activities by performing routine operator maintenance and reporting equipment concerns.
  • Maintain accurate production documentation and communicate equipment status, quality issues, and production concerns.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area by following 5S and housekeeping standards.
  • Collaborate with team members to maintain production flow and support departmental objectives.
  • Participate in cross-training and continuous improvement initiatives while expanding technical knowledge and operational proficiency.
  • Demonstrate ownership of assigned equipment by maintaining consistent production performance and product quality.
  • Comply with all company policies, safety procedures, and quality standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES NEEDED TO SUCCEED IN THIS ROLE:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Previous experience in digital or offset printing operations (HP press experience preferred).
  • Technical understanding of press operations and finishing processes.
  • Ability to read and follow production job tickets and specifications.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with basic troubleshooting skills.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles a plus.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical training preferred.
  • Ability to work assigned shifts and adapt to schedule changes.
