About this Position

The Greenwood School of Music at Oklahoma State University seeks applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor of Oboe with a start date of August 2026.

Responsibilities: 

The Greenwood School of Music seeks a qualified oboist to build and sustain a successful oboe studio and play an active role in the recruitment and retention of oboe majors, as well as collaborate with colleagues in the advancement of the woodwind area. The candidate will be expected to teach applied lessons in oboe including a weekly studio class. The teaching assignment will also include the oboe portion of the double reed techniques course. The successful candidate will rehearse weekly and perform as oboist with Bluestem Blaze, the faculty woodwind quintet. Additional teaching assignments may be in general education or in an area of the candidate's expertise. The successful candidate is expected to engage in service to the unit and their profession, be productive as an artist/scholar, and to promote a welcoming learning environment. This is a one-year position and is contingent upon available funding.

The Michael and Anne Greenwood School of Music has a current faculty of over 40 full-time faculty, combined with a full-time professional staff of 9. There are approximately 300 students enrolled in degree programs that include the BA, BM, BS, and MM, with programs in music education, performance, jazz, music and music industry. Oklahoma State University, accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music, is housed in the beautiful new facility of the McKnight Performing Arts Center and the Michael and Anne Greenwood School of Music, and an all-Steinway institution. Required Qualifications
  • Master's degree in oboe performance.
    (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)
  • Evidence of successful applied teaching experience at the university level.

  • Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge:

    Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively mentor and collaborate with students and colleagues.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Ph.D./Ed.D.

    Earned doctorate or equivalent professional experience.

  • Experience in chamber and orchestral performance.
