Job description


The Assistant Software Applications Instructor works with an IT Coach to train at-risk young adults in learning Adobe and Microsoft Office software in preparation for taking industry-certified exams. Initial classes are in Adobe Photoshop and Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.  This position requires a hands-on approach to improving critical thinking, computer literacy, and  test-taking skills for young adult students ages 18 – 24. The Assistant Applications Software Instructor helps the IT Coach in mentoring students and modeling the importance of having computer software skills in today’s high-tech work and business environments. Additional Adobe and Microsoft applications will be available for student learning after they complete the prerequisite courses. This is a part-time position. Retired teachers and software professionals are encouraged to apply.

A Knock at Midnight (AKAM) is a non-profit community-based organization who provides services to the Auburn Gresham, Englewood, West Englewood, and West Chatham communities.  
 
 AKAM's mission is to collaborate and build linkages with schools, churches, nonprofits, and government institutions.  Collaborations are developed to provide prevention services for residents.  Educational trainings are implemented to build positive character and enhance life skills of all participants through training and workshops.  Program initiatives are designed to empower the community with knowledge, information, and educational opportunities.  
 
Reporting: 

Reports to the Program Coordinator.
Duties and Responsibilities: 

The Assistant Software Applications Instructor will:
·         Work closely with young adult students to prepare them to pass industry-level certification exams in specific computer applications.  
·         Work collaboratively with other educators on developing literacy strategies for young adults.
·         Collaborate with a Vocational Trainer to plan literacy initiatives and outcomes for the purpose of social and economic advancement. 
·         Monitor and track achievement data for program evaluation purposes.
Qualifications:
·         Must have a bachelor’s degree and experience in the use of various software applications.
·         Some experience in urban education or vocational training, serving low-income and minority students, is preferred.
·         Knowledge of computer literacy and test-taking strategies.
·         Patience and the ability to remain calm in fast-paced work environments.
·         Ability to create the best learning conditions.
·         Possess excellent leadership skills.
·         Relate well to young adults.
·         Passionate about the helping others succeed.
·         Flexible and open to change.
·         Have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
