Job description

Schedule: Monday – Friday, Daylight Shift
Employment Type: Full-Time, Hourly

Position Summary

The Assistant Plant Operator supports daily operations of the biogas processing plant located at Chestnut Valley Landfill. This position is responsible for assisting in the safe and efficient handling, processing, and transfer of landfill gas, including filling tanker trucks with biogas for transport. The ideal candidate is safety-conscious, mechanically inclined, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with daily operation of the biogas collection and processing systems.
  • Safely fill and transfer biogas into tanker trucks for off-site delivery.
  • Monitor gas flow, pressures, and system performance; record readings and report abnormalities.
  • Perform routine inspections and basic maintenance on plant equipment, compressors, valves, and pipelines.
  • Ensure compliance with all environmental, health, and safety regulations, including proper handling of hazardous materials.
  • Maintain accurate operational logs, maintenance records, and truck-loading documentation.
  • Support the Plant Operator and maintenance team in troubleshooting and repair activities.
  • Communicate operational status, issues, and safety concerns to supervisors promptly.
  • All other Duties as assigned

Qualifications

Required:

  • Hazmat endorsement.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and understanding of industrial or plant operations.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and lift up to 50 lbs.

Preferred:

  • Prior experience in landfill gas, biogas, or industrial plant environments.
  • Knowledge of gas handling systems, valves, and instrumentation.
  • Basic computer literacy for data entry and monitoring systems.
