Job description

KECI is looking for a creative, detail-oriented Video Editor to join our award-winning news team. This position plays a critical role in shaping daily newscasts and digital content by editing compelling video, sound, and graphics that inform and engage viewers across Western Montana.

The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced newsroom environment, works well under tight deadlines, and understands the importance of visual storytelling. This role requires strong organizational skills, technical proficiency, and the ability to collaborate with producers, reporters, photographers, and newsroom leadership.

Responsibilities:

  • Edit video for daily newscasts, special projects, promotions, and digital platforms
  • Assemble compelling stories using video, natural sound, graphics, and other visual elements
  • Manage and organize incoming media from photographers, reporters, and network sources
  • Ensure all edited content meets station standards for accuracy, quality, and journalistic integrity
  • Work closely with producers and newsroom staff to meet daily deadlines
  • Assist with content preparation for streaming and digital platforms as needed
  • Monitor and maintain video quality and consistency across broadcasts
  • Troubleshoot technical issues and communicate concerns to engineering and newsroom leadership
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support newsroom operations

Qualifications:

  • Experience editing video in a professional newsroom, production environment, or related field preferred
  • Proficiency with non-linear editing systems and newsroom technology
  • Strong understanding of storytelling, pacing, and visual composition
  • Ability to work efficiently under deadline pressure while maintaining attention to detail
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Knowledge of broadcast news operations is a plus
