Job Overview: JFL is currently seeking a motivated and ambitious Network Engineer to join our team in Annapolis, MD. This is a full-time, exempt position. The Network Engineer is responsible for maintaining Cisco & Aruba based network and infrastructure. This includes wired, wireless, storage, and communications environments. The role will actively manage the availability and monitoring systems, assist with implementing new technologies, maintaining and providing first and second tier support. Position requires off-hours work for repairs, updates, patches, and maintenance. Responsible for installing, maintaining, and supporting LAN, WAN and VoIP infrastructures for their clients. Provide high-level technical support for voice and data network systems, create and maintain network documentation, maintain hardware and software standards, and work on projects as needed in order to upgrade to new and/or improved communication equipment and procedures. Coordinates implementations with customer staff and vendor personnel and is a knowledge resource for other site Network Engineers. The Junior Network Engineer must be versed with the engineering and administration of multiprotocol routers, multilayer switches, network security devices and network management systems. You will also be responsible for creating and updating network documentation, as well as working on projects to upgrade our communication equipment and procedures. You will coordinate implementations with customers and vendor personnel and act as a knowledge resource for our customers. This position requires occasional off-hours work for repairs, updates, patches, and maintenance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assists Senior Network Engineers in monitoring and maintaining Switches.
  • Assists Senior Network Engineers with new system roll outs.
  • Performs network change requests. This includes switch, router, and firewall technologies.
  • Perform load balancing change request. This includes load balancing technologies.
  • Perform complex troubleshooting on all network technologies. This includes switches, routers, wireless, ISP connections, and WAN connections, using OSPF and BGP routing technologies.
  • Monitor and maintain network management tools on a daily basis and provide performance and availability reports to site management.
  • Apply latest critical and security patches to servers and appliances and upgrade server applications.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot network switches for issues, errors, problems, etc. Triage issues, elevate as needed and monitor to resolution.
  • Assist in the repair of network equipment upgrades & failures, provide on-call and off- hours support as required.
  • Provide second tier technical support to IT Helpdesk staff and assist with complex issues and resolutions.
  • Assist IT management with registering, tracking, and renewing equipment maintenance contracts and network software licensing and inventory.
  • Implement new technologies and solutions collaboratively with Senior Network Engineers, other Engineering Staff, and Site Leadership
  • Communicates effectively in a team environment with all levels of customers, management and peers verbally, and in writing.
  • Participates in occasional evening and weekend hours for patching, updates, and projects.
  • Analyzes IT Operations activities and offers new approaches to provide efficiencies.
  • Works in accordance with procedures, checklists and guidelines.
  • Documents processes, procedures and application in a networked environment.

Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Network infrastructure and administration experience, preferably Aruba environments
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance
  • One of the following certifications or equivalent for DOD 8140 Compliance:
  • CompTIA Security+, GIAC GSEC, or CompTIA CYSA+
  • One of the following technical networking certifications:
  • CCNA or HPE Aruba ACA-Switching
  • Must be willing to be available for off-hours work for repairs, updates, patches, and maintenance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Network Access Control (NAC) solutions for wired and wireless networks
  • Radio frequency (RF) knowledge and proficiency in Aruba Wireless
  • Experience with Aruba Clear Pass, Aruba OnGuard and Aruba Switches
  • Prior experience within DoD contract or federal government infrastructure programs
