DIRECT REPORTS:  None

FLSA STATUS:  Full Time FLSA, Exempt, 40 hours per Work Week

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The Network Engineer I is responsible for the planning, deployment, and maintenance of the network infrastructure supporting 911 call center operations. This includes ensuring high availability, redundancy, security, and performance of network systems, and providing technical support for network-related issues. The Network Engineer I will work closely with Network II staff, system admins, and the rest of the technology team to troubleshoot issues, perform routine changes, and perform core networking tasks aligned with organizational standards and best practices. Due to this type of industry, work may be performed at the ADCOM environment or other facilities, and availability must be 24/7/365. This position requires a scheduled ‘On Call’ shift and the ability to provide twenty-four (24) hour, seven (7) day week remote support for any event that occurs during that shift.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide Teir I and II level technical support for network issues.
  • Adept at task prioritization and time management.
  • Monitor network performance and ensure system availability and reliability.
  • Perform other related work as required.
  • Assist Network Engineer II in the design and implementation of network solutions tailored to the specific needs of ADCOM.
  • Configure and install various network devices and services (e.g., routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, VPN).
  • Develop and maintain accurate network documentation, topology diagrams, labeling, and inventory records.
  • Perform network maintenance and system upgrades, including service packs, patches, hotfixes, and security configurations.
  • Troubleshoot network-related issues promptly to minimize downtime.
  • Implement and oversee network security measures to protect sensitive data and ensure compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Comply with security policies and standards to ensure the highest level of network security.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to call center staff and other stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with IT team members and external vendors to resolve complex network issues.
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of emerging technologies and best practices.
  • Supports Radio and the organization’s diverse, multi-location network, and occasionally

supports other agencies’ networks with they interface with our infrastructure.

  • Provide after-hours support.
  • Maintain accurate labeling and comprehensive documentation of network configurations, changes, and maintenance activities.
  • Generate regular reports on network performance, incidents, and resolution actions.
  • Assist in the development of network-related policies and procedures.
  • Perform disaster recovery operations when required.
POSSESSION OF OR ABILITY TO OBTAIN THE FOLLOWING LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
  • CompTIA Network + or Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) required.
  • CCNP, CCIE, CCDE, CCNSC, CompTIA Sec +, or other equivalent certifications strongly preferred but not required.
 KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Ability to implement, administer, and troubleshoot network infrastructure devices, including routers, switches, firewalls, wireless access points, and controllers.
  • Strong understanding of network infrastructure and network hardware.
  • Experience troubleshooting multi-location networks.
  • Experience with advanced routing and switching technologies, including MPLS, Multi-VRF, OSPF, and BGP.
  • Experience with core switching technologies such as EtherChannel/vPC, VLANs, HSRP, and Spanning Tree.
  • Knowledge of firewall technologies, hardware, and software, including Cisco Firepower.
  • Knowledge of VPN technologies, including remote access and site-to-site VPNs.
  • Knowledge of backup internet connections and basic failover concepts.
  • Knowledge of disaster recovery methods and network redundancy.
  • Experience with network monitoring tools, protocol analyzers, and protocol data flows.
  • Experience with security and system infrastructure concepts.
  • Understanding of LAN and WAN technologies.
  • Ability to create accurate network diagrams and documentation for network design and planning.
  • Experience writing technical and business documentation.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions, interpret technical drawings, and execute maintenance plans for technical resources.
  • Experience with Cisco Unity Connection (CUC) and Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CUCM).
  • Understanding of Cisco UCS, VMware, and multiple operating systems, including Windows and Linux, is preferred.
  • Knowledge of service desk applications.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within cross-functional teams in a collaborative environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and projects.
  • Strong organizational, customer service, and project management skills.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field preferred.
  • 2 years plus of Information Technology technical hands-on experience using a combination of hardware, operating systems, and client-server applications in an enterprise-wide distributed computing environment preferred.
  • Experience and training in Windows Servers, Networking, and Firewalls are required.
  • Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
  • Will be required to attain CJIS clearance within 30 days upon hire
  • Valid Colorado driver’s license or ability to obtain driver’s license within 90 days of hire.
  • Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check, including CVSA.
  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check, if required.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Physical Demands: Regular standing and sitting; the ability to lift a maximum of forty pounds; occasional lifting, carrying, walking, and standing; hand/eye coordination for operation of computer keyboard; vision for review and analysis of data and reports; frequent speech communication, hearing, and listening to maintain communication with employees and agencies. This job requires normal hearing and color vision.
  • Office environment with frequent interruptions; will interact with employees and member agencies daily; some computer system user contact; exposure to computer screens; potential exposure to inclement weather; travels from site to site. Provide twenty-four (24) hour, seven (7) day a week remote availability for the emergency diagnosis of critical IT related problems.
  • Equipment Used: Organization-provided computer, PSAP console equipment, telephone, printers, and other job-related equipment and tools.
