Job description

We are hiring a Network Engineer- Junior - in Montgomery, AL to support secure, mission-critical enterprise environments. In this role, you will complete tasks assigned by Senior Network Engineer. Under general supervision will install, configure, and support an organizationโ€™s local area network (LAN), Intranet and Internet, and other data communications systems or a segment of a network system; maintain network hardware and software; monitors network to ensure network availability to all system users and perform necessary maintenance to support network availability; provides support to projects that involve networks; and provides support in the translation of business requirements into telecommunications (e.g., LAN, MAN, WAN, Voice, and Video) requirements, designs, and orders.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • The Network Engineer shall install, configure, and support an organizationโ€™s local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN), Agency Internet Network (AIN), Intranet and Internet, and other data communications systems or a segment of a network system.

  • The Network Engineer shall maintain network hardware and software; monitors network to ensure network availability to all system users and perform necessary maintenance to support network availability.

  • The Network Engineer shall provide support to projects that involve networks; and provides support in the translation of business requirements into telecommunications (e.g., LAN, MAN, WAN, Voice) requirements, designs, and orders.

  • Develop LAN/WAN network designs to accommodate a data center migration

  • Troubleshoot complex network issues such as performance analysis, protocol problems, hardware failures and WAN/LAN connectivity issues.

  • Participate in the implementation of agreed upon solutions and strategies.

  • Troubleshoot technology issues, using various internal and external resources.

  • Generate innovative approaches and solutions to recurring tasks or problems.

  • Document technical problems, resolutions, and processes for assigned tasks and projects.

  • Participate in testing and evaluation of new technologies to ensure compatibility and functionality.

  • Follow policies and procedures for change and incident management.

Qualifications

  • Active Secret Clearance

  • CompTIA Security+ CE required

  • One to two years of progressively responsible network engineering hands-on experience with Cisco platforms.

  • Candidates should have technical experience in all of the following areas: Cisco, LAN/WAN, VoIP, TCP/IP protocol, routing/switching configurations and firewall technologies.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and hands on experience with LAN/WAN setup, TCP/IP protocol, routing/switching configurations and firewall technologies.

  • Experience with Cisco routing/switching platforms and IOS.

  • Experience with network topologies such as Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, GbE VLAN, and SONET.

  • Experience in implementing converged networks to include VoIP, VTC and QoS methods

Preferred Skills/ Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated knowledge with content switching and load balancers

  • VoIP component configuration and deployment experience is a plus.

  • Knowledge of systems and enterprise storage technologies.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills as well as the ability to work independently as required.
