Job Description

JOB DETAILS GIVEN BELOW:-

Title : Cable Technician

Location: Raleigh NC

Duration:12+ months contract

Description (including, but not limited to):

  • Installation of cable, wiring, wireless AP's for voice and data interfaces and systems with communications functions.
  • Termination and testing of Cat 5/6 network cabling as well as fiber optic cabling.
  • Responsible for installation of network switches and related network equipment.
  • Knowledge of troubleshooting techniques related to structured cabling.
  • Must have excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and have the ability to communicate with all levels of staff and management.
Qualifications

Required Skills:

  • Cat 5E/6 network cable installation experience including terminating and testing.
  • Network cable termination at patch panel and jack location, know the difference between 568a and 568b.
  • Able to lift / cary 50 lbs of tools.
  • Able to climb ladders ( up to 12ft) and work pulling cable on them.
  • Use power tools to install cabling.
  • Start work at 4:00AM when needed to get to job site and work after 5:00PM. Work overnight as needed to complete the job.
  • Use of LAN and voice test equipment and tone sets to verify cabling.
  • Moderate experience installing, configuring and troubleshooting network equipment such as layer 2 and layer 3 LAN switches.
  • Fiber Optic Cabling experience including installation, termination and testing.

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of Local Area Networks (LANs)/Wide Area Networks (WANs), TCP/IP, and/or server/network infrastructure.
  • Responsible for configuration and troubleshooting of network switches.
  • Ability to perform site surveys on campus sites for new network installations.
  • Design and maintenance of both the hardware and software necessary for a computer network infrastructure installation.
