Job description

SUMMARY OF POSITION: Reporting to the Senior Associate Director of Athletics and the Head Men's and Women's Swim Coach at Converse University, the Assistant Men's and Women's Swim Coach implements and helps manage all phases of a competitive Men's and Women's Swimming program in accordance with NCAA, Conference Carolinas, and Converse University regulations through a courteous, helpful, unbiased and professional manner.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/ NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The Assistant Men's and Women's Swim Coach helps provide overall management, guidance, and strategy development for the Men's and Women's Swimming program. The Assistant Men's and Women's Swim Coach will help implement and manage all phases of a competitive Division II program in accordance with NCAA, Conference Carolinas, and Converse University regulations.

Team Management - (35%)

  • Assist in providing leadership and direction for both athletic teams, as well as to the individual team members
  • Assist and/or lead team and individual coaching and instruction training sessions
  • Assist the Head Coach in monitoring study hall of student-athletes
  • Promote and develop a positive, united team culture that contributes positively to the overall campus culture of Converse University.
  • Assist the Head Coach in providing regular support and direction to student-athletes.
  • Prioritize and drive retention of student-athletes
  • Assist in managing team's social media accounts
  • Assist the Head Coach in promoting and monitoring the physical, emotional, and social well-being of all student-athletes
  • Assist the Head Coach in planning and implementing procedures for home and away contests including but not limited to: food and travel arrangements, cash requests, setup, and scheduling officials

Recruiting - (25%)

  • Assist in recruiting quality student-athletes by means of personal contact and correspondence, evaluating ability in person or by video
  • Assist with on-campus recruiting visits, including giving tours and meeting with recruits and their families
  • Assist in recruiting student-athletes to build program's competitive success and maintain expected squad size
  • Work closely with the Director of Compliance, Admissions Office, and Financial Aid to conduct a highly professional, effective, and ethical recruiting process.

Community (20%)

  • Assist Head Coach in creating and cultivating professional relationships with the community to build both recruiting and sponsorship opportunities
  • Assist Head Coach in building and fostering relationships with local, regional, and national high school and club swim teams
  • Assist Head Coach in organizing and participating in community service with staff and student-athletes
  • Assist Head Coach in organizing and implementing team fundraisers
  • Assist Head Coach in participating in department-wide fundraisers
  • Assist Head Coach in developing and implementing annual Converse swim camps
  • Represent Converse University at conferences and events as needed
  • Attend departmental staff meetings, clinics, workshops, and all other mandatory events
  • Attend campus-wide staff meetings

Team Work - (10%)

  • Maintain compliance with Title IX and all other University policies and procedures
  • Understand the University's policies and procedures and follow them accordingly
  • Assure that University and student information is handled in a confidential and ethical manner

Program Management - (5%)

  • Assist Head Coach in maintenance and inventorying physical equipment and resources
  • Reports on needs and maintenance of facilities and equipment to the athletics administration

Other Duties - (5%)

  • Assume game day management duties as necessary.
  • Fulfills commitments to all additional duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics/Administration/Head Men's and Women's Swim Coach which may include administrative responsibilities.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Experience in competitive swimming or swim coaching
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations
  • Commitment to liberal arts education
  • Compliance with the University's Service Expectations

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1+ years of intercollegiate coaching experience

GUIDELINES AND SUPERVISION: Reporting to the Head Men's and Women's Swim Coach, the Assistant Men's and Women's Swim Coach position is responsible for assisting in all teaching and instruction provided to student-athletes. Each of these functions entails decision-making that requires discretion, a significant degree of independent judgment, and consistent communication with leadership. Problems faced are frequently complex and multidimensional, requiring broad-based consideration of variables that impact multiple areas of the organization.

Work Schedule: Sunday through Saturday - hours vary; includes "after-hours" work throughout the year

Licenses: Valid SC Driver's License
