Job description

Position Summary
The Registered Musculoskeletal Sonographer is responsible for performing high-quality diagnostic musculoskeletal ultrasound examinations to assist physicians in the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of orthopedic injuries and conditions. The sonographer will work closely with Orthopedic Surgeons, Physiatrists, Podiatrists and healthcare providers to deliver accurate and timely imaging studies while ensuring an exceptional patient experience. This is a full-time position. Typical hours are 8-5; but may vary based on schedules.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Operates and manages medical diagnostic ultrasound equipment to complete a variety of procedures.
  2. Consistently produces diagnostic quality exams, individualizing technical factors, scanning parameters and patient positioning as required by each procedure.
  3. Effectively uses computer systems (such PACS) to process, access and distribute appropriate department and patient procedure information.
  4. Assists in transportation of patients to and from the department.
  5. Participates in providing education and information to patients and their families.
  6. Manage and maintain Ultrasound department accreditation through AIUM
  7. Document findings and maintain accurate patient records within the electronic medical record (EMR) system.
  8. Ensure compliance with practice, state, and federal regulations related to patient care and imaging services.
  9. Educate patients regarding examination procedures and provide compassionate care throughout the visit.
  10. Perform quality assurance activities and maintain equipment in optimal operating condition.
  11. Collaborate effectively with physicians, radiologists, advanced practice providers, athletic trainers, physical therapists, and clinical staff.
  12. Stay current with advances in musculoskeletal ultrasound technology and imaging technique
Qualifications
  1. Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS), RVT, or equivalent credential through ARDMS or ARRT.
  2. Registered in Musculoskeletal Sonography (RMSKS) credential required through APCA or ARDMS, or eligible to sit for examination
  3. Demonstrated competence in diagnostic ultrasound procedures. At least 2 years’ experience as RDMS
  4. Excellent interpersonal, decision-making, facilitation, conflict resolution skills
  5. Excellent listening, verbal and written communication skills.
  6. Ability to work independently and under pressure in a complex and changing working environment.
  7. Demonstrated computer skills and knowledge of computer software related to electronic image and clinical information management.
Work Environment/Physical Demands

  • Frequent standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, and repetitive hand and wrist movements while performing ultrasound examinations.
  • Ability to position, transfer, and assist patients safely during imaging procedures.
  • Frequent use of hands and fingers to operate ultrasound equipment, computer systems, and related office equipment.
  • Ability to maintain ergonomic scanning positions for extended periods while performing diagnostic examinations.
  • Frequent visual acuity required for image acquisition, interpretation support, and computer documentation.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, physicians, and staff in person and by telephone.
  • Ability to occasionally lift, push, pull, and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment while managing multiple tasks and maintaining attention to detail.
  • Ability to travel between clinic locations, if required.
This position requires sustained upper extremity strength and endurance necessary for musculoskeletal ultrasound scanning and ultrasound-guided procedures. The employee must be able to perform repetitive scanning motions while maintaining image quality and patient comfort throughout the examination.
