Job description

Support construction aggregate mining operations at hard rock quarry and sand and gravel sites.


Gather and Utilize Mine Planning Data: Gather and utilize geologic mapping, drill data, hydrologic information, quality testing results, topography, aerial photography, survey data, sales forecasts, and other mine planning data to design 3-D mine plans and mining/stripping schedules.


Generate and Maintain Site Plans and Maps: Generate and maintain site plans for all mining locations. Assist with reserve documentation. Generate and maintain site plan and improvement drawings for all support facility locations.


Mine Planning and Monitoring: Plan for and monitor long-term mine development and identify/advise on current and future mining challenges. Develop and communicate reserve estimates, estimate stripping volumes, prepare stripping plans, short-term mine plans, long-term mine plans, and mine reclamation plans.


Ensure Compliance: Assist operations personnel in observing permit conditions and regulations, and in maintaining the systems necessary to ensure regulatory compliance.


Prepare Presentations: Assist in the preparation of presentations, documentation, reports, and maps as needed.


Participate in Permitting and Business Development Efforts: Participate in regulatory agency permitting process, special projects planning and management, and property acquisitions as necessary.


Additional Responsibilities: Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:Must be a team player with strong interpersonal skills, positive attitude, strong work ethic, flexibility, and willingness to take personal ownership of projects and see them through to completion. Position requires travel to plant and mine sites and other locations as needed and outdoor work in active mining sites in variety of weather conditions.


Required Skills, Experience and Credentials:


Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering, or in an associated technical field such as Geology, Geological Engineering, or Civil Engineering. PE/CEG preferred.


Experience: Minimum 5 years full-time professional experience surface mining and reclamation planning and site development planning. Material processing operations experience preferred.


Mine Planning Skills: Must have the ability to create professional quality mine plans, compute aggregate reserves, and interpret data including geologic testing results, topographic maps and regulatory requirements.


Analytical Skills: Must have strong analytical and problem-solving skills.


Technology Skills: Must have proficient skills in 3D-CAD design, Excel, Carlson, and other computer software.


Time Management Skills: Must be self-motivated and have the ability to manage multiple projects effectively without close supervision.
