Job description

Hours & Pay Shift: 8AM – 4:30PM, Monday–Friday with flexible coverage. Shift type: 8‐hour, variable shift. On‐call: As needed. Hourly pay: $72.29 – $93.28 – $104.47 (based on experience, skills, education). What You Will Do Provides the technical knowledge, expertise and judgment required to support the Sharp HealthCare mission and scope of laboratory services. Perform or assist with pre‐analytical, analytical, and post‐analytical test processes and evaluate results relative to patient diagnosis and treatment. Obtain clinical histories and describe gross features of tissue for processing. Prepare tissue samples for light microscopy and special studies; select samples for special studies such as research, chemosensitivity testing, flow cytometry, and imaging. Perform special procedures including tumor triage, tumor banking, x‐ray imaging, frozen section procedures, and touch preparation slides. Teach pathologists' assistant students, high‐school students, pathology residents, and medical students as applicable. Photograph gross specimens and microscopic slides; assist with specimen accessioning. Maintain surgical/autopsy pathology protocols, procedures, reports, and data; assure proper equipment maintenance. Assist in preparation for accreditation inspections (CAP, Joint Commission). Perform supervisory/management duties as delegated; assure legal authorization for autopsy. Obtain medical records, prepare preliminary summarizations of clinical history, and coordinate special specimen sampling requests. Consult with attending pathologist on special techniques and perform post‐mortem examinations with documentation and photography. Use written policies and procedures to complete processes without error; identify and report issues. Perform new procedures and policies within acceptable training time intervals; meet department turnaround time goals. Document activities consistently, thoroughly, and legibly; proofread and double‐check work. Evaluate data for accuracy and investigate questionable findings with appropriate follow‐through. Communicate proactively, work cooperatively, and establish effective working relationships with internal and external customers. Use critical thinking, emotional intelligence, and logical decision‐making in stressful situations. Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability; embrace changes and new ideas. Utilize equipment and testing instruments in accordance with manufacturer instructions and established procedures; resolve breakdowns promptly. Maintain inventory of consumables and resolve shortages; work with vendors when necessary. Lead and collaborate with laboratory leadership to enhance technical, managerial, and financial performance. Develop and revise policies and procedures to ensure compliance with SHC corporate guidelines. Provide technical consultation on abnormal or unusual orders or results; interact with staff and physicians to solve problems. Support and provide input for policy development and implementation; conduct section meetings and performance appraisals. Maintain accreditation and regulatory standards with CAP, JCAHO, CA State, FDA, and other agencies. Monitor quality control systems, proficiency testing, and calibration; perform corrective actions as needed. Prepare daily position tasks within expected timeframes to meet QA indicator goals. Required Qualifications Bachelor's Degree. Five (5) years grossing complex surgical pathology specimens. PA (ASCP) – ASCP Board of Certification (required).
