Job Summary/Description:
We are looking for a meteorologist to lead our weekend weather coverage. This position also requires working as an MMJ, covering general assignments as determined by management, three days during the week. Strong technical skills are necessary, as this position will also be responsible for updating weathercasts for digital, web, social media, and our streaming TV platforms on weekends (and weekdays as assigned). This is an entry-level position ideal for someone who desires to learn under the guidance of an award-winning news and weather team.
Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Creating weathercasts for on-air as well as on streaming/digital platforms.
- Doing weather for on-air newscasts each weekend and filling in as needed on other shifts.
- Cultivating, writing, and editing content pertaining to both news and weather for web, social media, and other digital platforms.
- Ability to report and go live from the field on general assignments or live weathercasts, as determined daily by news management.
- Assist with producing, writing, and anchoring daily streaming half-hour weather shows.
- Able to independently do long-form weathercasts on streaming platforms and sustain long hours on multiple platforms during severe weather coverage, under the direction of the chief meteorologist or news director.
- Ability to stay organized and calm during high-pressure breaking news and weather situations.
- Fill in as needed in various capacities as necessary in a modern television newsroom.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- A BA/BS degree in Meteorology, Broadcast Journalism with an emphasis on weather, or a related field is required for this position.
- A sample video reel demonstrating on-air skills is required for consideration.
- Strong professional social media skills.
- Excellent communication and organizational/scheduling skills.
- A valid driver's license and good driving record.
