Job description

Position Overview
The Assistant Merchant is responsible for merchandising the private label women's apparel lines at Tuckernuck to increase sales and gross profit for the company. This includes owning the business from start to finish by creating line assortment plans, setting target retail prices and cost targets for the products, and detailed analysis of product selling information.
The Private Label Assistant Merchant will work directly with the Senior Merchant, the Senior Director of Merchandising, and Founders to create the Tuckernuck and Pomander Place product verticals.They will also work directly with the internal private label team and external design and product development teams to ensure POs are placed timely and accurately with the vendors.. In addition, they will be a part of the sample fitting and approval process to ensure the product design intention and financial metrics are met.
Core Responsibilities
  • Partner with the Senior Merchant to develop and execute merchandising strategies that maximize sales, margin, and inventory productivity across all channels.
  • Analyze and report on private label product performance on a weekly, monthly, and seasonal basis, identifying key opportunities and risks.
  • Maintain merchandising and design assortment visuals with the most up-to-date product information, buy metrics, and key performance indicators.
  • Maintain seasonal buy trackers and ensure all assortment, pricing, and delivery information is accurate and up to date
  • Manage incoming private label shipments by partnering with Logistics and Buying Coordinators to maintain shipment trackers and ensure timely deliveries.
  • Own product creation and management within the Tuckernuck PO tool

Private Label Product Development
  • Partner with Design and Production to build monthly and seasonal assortment line plans by category.
  • Identify new product opportunities that align with the Tuckernuck customer and brand vision.
  • Analyze historical selling data, competitive products, and pricing to inform buy depth and assortment decisions.
  • Track buys throughout the season to ensure monthly, seasonal, and category plans remain on target.
  • Maintain assortment visuals and product share-out tools so cross-functional teams have visibility into upcoming launches.
  • Monitor in-season product performance and recommend markdown strategies to maximize sell-through and margin.
  • Partner with Creative, PR, Styling, Marketing, and Merchandising teams to support product launches and achieve sales, sell-through, and margin goals.

Meeting Support
  • Prepare accurate meeting recaps, action items, and follow-up notes for key merchandising meetings.
  • Coordinate, organize, and prepare product samples and supporting materials for milestone meetings, presentations, and assortment reviews.

Minimum Qualifications
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience

Compensation
Compensation for the role will be determined based on the candidate's qualifications, skills, and experience. The estimated annual compensation for this role is $65,000-$75,000; classified as full-time exempt and not eligible for overtime.
