Working under the direction of the Estimating Director, this role produces quantity takeoffs and detailed estimates for large-bore and small-bore piping, process equipment setting, structural mechanical, and related scopes, interpreting engineering deliverables and assembling bids that reflect realistic productivity, site conditions, and risk.
Key Responsibilities
  • Review and interpret engineering deliverables-P&IDs, isometrics, GA drawings, line lists, equipment lists, and specifications-to develop complete, well-organized quantity takeoffs
  • Perform detailed takeoffs for process piping, in-line valves and specialties, equipment setting, structural steel, insulation, coatings, and testing
  • Develop labor hours using recognized norms, adjusting for material, joint type, size, elevation, and field conditions
  • Prepare and issue requests for quotation to fabricators, suppliers, and subcontractors; level returned pricing and identify gaps or exclusions
  • Price and validate material pricing, including alloy and exotic metallurgy where required
  • Coordinate equipment, rigging, and crane requirements for heavy lifts and equipment setting with the field and construction team

  • Support development of contingency and escalation inputs with the Chief Estimator
  • Participate in bid reviews and turnover meetings, presenting the basis of estimate to management and the project team
  • Assist in capturing as-bid versus actual cost data at project close-out
Required Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of estimating experience in heavy industrial, process, or mechanical construction
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret P&IDs, piping isometrics, GA drawings, and mechanical specifications
  • Working knowledge of process piping systems, materials, fabrication methods, and field installation practices
  • Proficiency with estimating and takeoff software (e.g., InEight/HCSS, Accubid, Bluebeam, PlanSwift, or similar) and strong Excel skills
  • Understanding of labor productivity norms and their application to field conditions
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple bids against firm deadlines
Preferred Qualifications
  • Field or fabrication-shop experience in industrial piping or mechanical work
  • Familiarity with turnaround, shutdown, and revamp estimating in operating facilities
