Description Title: Graduate Assistant Position Number: 0000GA09 Hiring Unit: Office of the Associate Dean for Research, School of Nursing & Dental Hygiene Location: Manoa Campus / Honolulu Date Posted: August 12, 2026 Closing Date: August 17, 2026 Salary Information: Step 18, $28,026 annually Monthly Appointment Type: 9-Month Part Time/ Full Time: Part Time Full Time Equivalency: 50% Temporary/ Permanent: Temporary Other Conditions: The SONDH invites PhD in Nursing Candidates to apply for a temporary, 50% effort, 9-month Graduate Assistant position beginning in August 2026. Continuation is contingent upon program needs, satisfactory work performance, academic progress, and availability of funds. Position benefits include tuition waiver and eligibility for health benefits, such as medical, drug, dental, and vision, with employee contribution.

The position is restricted for a PhD student (Nursing) who is interested in advancing research to support health equity, vaccine science, cancer prevention, and women's and child health. Candidates should enjoy learning new research methodologies, solving problems, and working on teams. Candidates will be expected to engage with multi-disciplinary teams across the nation (in varied time zones) using virtual technology, plus working in in-person settings.

The candidate will provide assistance to the Principal Investigator (PI), the Matsuda Chair in Women's Health, in conducting research and disseminating findings. Work with the PI to coordinate projects including: recruitment and management of participants, participant consents, data collection, data management, and dissemination of findings (reports, presentations, and manuscript development). Assists with preparation and submission of IRB applications and grant proposals.

Tracks deliverables and outcomes of studies. Manages project data and ensure integrity and quality of data collected. Attends weekly project meetings and assist with communication with other investigators, vendors, and community members who are key stakeholders for the research projects.

Duties and Responsibilities Works closely with the Matsuda Chair to support ongoing research, and day-to-day program operations. Assists with the collection of qualitative and quantitative data, such as conducting interviews, focus groups, or administering and/or collecting surveys; obtaining consent/assent as required by ethics/IRB guidelines and maintain confidentiality of data; assisting in training other study staff; coordinating and performing analysis of field data with guidance from the supervisor; participating in debrief sessions with team members following testing sessions to discuss research findings. Writes up summaries of research findings and contribute to publications and presentations.

Conducts outreach to recruit research participants. Communicates regularly with research team members and other outside stakeholders to plan and execute study aims Maintains communications with internal/external project partners and assists with any necessary paperwork; assists in carrying out routine awareness-raising events to ensure ongoing project funding; reviews and summarizes relevant research literature to guide project activities. Actively participates in team meetings to share insights and best practices from active projects.

Mentors undergraduate or master's students working on the team. Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Classified degree-seeking graduate student in a PhD in Nursing program at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa, in good academic standing and maintains a GPA of 3.0 or above; Must maintain 6 credits per semester except those who have reached 800 (dissertation); Demonstrated exceptional interpersonal and communication skills; Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team; Demonstrated problem-solving, communication, and adaptability skills; Familiarity with modern communication tools and technology and ability to assist others in using them

Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Zoom and ability to manage multiple projects are essential. Desirable Qualifications Interest in survey methods, qualitative methods, implementation science. Interest in cancer prevention and women's health.

Interest in advancing understanding of best practices to communicate about and develop health systems to support vaccine preventable diseases. Interest in lifelong learning, community engagement, education, aging, nonprofit administration, communications, or related fields. Familiarity with: 1) AI tools, 2) graphic design tools such as Canva, or similar programs Familiarity with ethical guidelines for research with human subjects.
