CliftonLarsonAllen (CLA) CLA Search has been retained by MedTorque, Inc. to identify a Plant Controller to serve their team being be responsible for all the Accounting and Finance functions at the plant level while reporting to the Corporate Controller and working closely with leadership and operations.

What You’ll Do:

  • General Analysis, Financial process development & control
  • Establish, modify, document, and administer accounting processes and control procedures within the organization. Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Procedures (GAAP) and company policy.
  • Provide interpretation of financial policies, financial results, and accounting theory to business team
  • Conduct studies to analyze complex financial impacts and prepare recommendations for policy, procedure, control, or action.
  • Review, investigate, and correct errors and inconsistencies in financial entries, documents, and reports. Determine proper accounting of financial transactions and approve transactions within designated limits.
  • Perform analyses to determine trends, estimates, or significant changes in business performance, and provide appropriate narrative explaining findings & recommendations. Work with business team to perform root cause analysis and determine business process or system improvements as needed.
  • Make recommendations to management regarding cost saving or profit generating opportunities and profitability improvement strategies.
  • Support the implementation of company software upgrades as required.

  • Assist with other projects related to finance or as needed
  • Cost Accounting, Inventory Control & Valuation
  • Lead annual physical inventory exercise at Elmhurst operation.
  • Administer weekly cycle count activities in Elmhurst. Identify weekly count population, review and validate count results, and ensure adjustments are properly booked.
  • Administer month-end inventory valuation review. Ensure shipment and production activity is appropriately captured and at-risk/aging inventories are appropriately identified and reserved. Record Book-to-Perpetual adjusting entry monthly.
  • Monitor & analyze product costs against quotes and/or historical trends to identify inconsistencies or areas of concern. Communicate results to business team and facilitate corrective action as needed.
  • Establishes & documents procedures and protocols for product cost/engineering standards and ensures operations team is fully trained on expectations/requirements. Polices the process to ensure compliance.
  • Regularly reviews sales, labor, and inventory transactions to ensure accurate capture of production costs on jobs and proper valuation and treatment in month-end financial results. Facilitates corrections of errors. Reconciles Book to Perpetual inventory monthly.
  • Calculate the likely Return on Investment for proposed Capital Expenditures or Productivity initiatives and present findings to management to facilitate good decision-making. Validate cost savings claimed on completed productivity projects.
  • Routine Financial Reporting & Analysis
  • Responsible for the Monthly Financial Close process for their assigned operation including the accuracy of results and preparation of financial statements, analysis, and reports.
  • Responsible for weekly reporting of key Orders, Sales, and Working Capital metrics for assigned operation. Provides relevant insights, analysis to management to ensure meaningful interpretation of the data.
  • Participates in weekly Production meetings with Operations team, to understand risks or upsides to target sales levels. Provides risk assessment on current month and future month shipment forecasts to Corporate Controller.
  • Provides detailed analysis of monthly financial results to site team, including comparisons to budget and details of customer profitability. Publishes Sales/Gross Margin report and reconciles it to General Ledger.
  • Assists in the development of the annual budget, periodic forecasts, monthly bank reports, Board meeting materials, annual audit deliverables, and other corporate financial requirements.
  • Review and audit employee timecards used in compiling payroll. Submit weekly payroll to Insperity for processing. Prepare employee documentation to be forwarded to Insperity payroll, WC or LOA as is required.
  • Track employee PTO and enforce company PTO policy. Update month-end PTO accrual for financial purposes. Review Insperity PTO earned but unpaid hours periodically against financial accrual to ensure accuracy is maintained.

What You’ll Need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
  • CPA designation would be a plus
  • Up to 10 years of accounting experience – 3 years leading an accounting department
  • Proficiency and aptitude for applicable software (ERP, Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.). The organization uses Epicor as their ERP system.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing setting.
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting
  • Must have significant hands-on experience – working in a lean team environment
  • Must possess a strong sense of urgency to respond to and address needs of the company, balanced with good instincts and a strong attention to detail
  • Ability to determine key metrics upon which to measure productivity and profitability
  • Ability to contribute to strategic planning and execution
