Western Connecticut State University's Macricostas School of Arts & Sciences is pleased to announce that applications are being accepted for a tenure track Assistant Professor in the Creative & Professional Writing department. This successful applicant will serve as Coordinator of Composition and Coordinator of the Writing Center.

The Macricostas School of Arts & Sciences www.wcsu.edu/sas/ is home to 11 departments, 19 undergraduate majors, six (6) graduate majors, and offers a variety of ways for students to further their education. The Department of Creative and Professional Writing offers the Bachelor of Arts in Professional Writing with concentrations in Creative Writing, Journalism and Public Relations, and Business and Technical Writing. The Department's graduate program includes the nation's only Master of Fine Arts in Creative & Professional Writing. The department also offers three undergraduate minors and a variety of writing intensive courses for credit in General Education. Faculty in the department carry twelve (12) credit hours per semester, but the Composition Coordinator receives reassigned time each semester for both Composition coordination and Writing Center coordination. Position Summary: The successful candidate will teach in and oversee the university's Composition program, which includes the first-year COMP 101 course, a second-tier composition course, a training course for Writing Center tutors, and teaching-in-the-schools courses. The Coordinator will serve as a leader in envisioning and revising the Composition curriculum as needed and in advising the university on General Education matters related to Composition. In the Writing Center, the Coordinator will supervise student peer tutors, provide tutoring and specialized support during peer-led tutoring sessions, manage the Writing Center space, provide development and training opportunities to Composition instructors and student tutors, supervise the embedded tutor program, and take responsibility for healthy operation of the Composition Program and the Writing Center. Professors are expected to maintain an active research program, serve on committees, and advise students.
Qualifications: Completed terminal degree (Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Composition, English, or Writing, or an MFA in Writing preferred) at the time of application, evidence of scholarship in Rhetoric and Composition or experience leading a composition program, and experience working in or leading a Writing Center or similar services to provide student learning support in writing required. Preference will be given to candidates with a strong background in teaching college composition, experience in administration and assessment, experience providing experiential learning (including but not limited to training student tutors), and a background in faculty development. Excellent written and oral communication skills are required.
A candidate who does not meet the above standards may also be appointed provided the candidate has credentials and/or experience substantially comparable to the above experience.

Salary & Benefits: The hiring salary range is $73,912 - $86,231. The salary will be commensurate upon candidates' experience.
