For more than 40 years, we've built a culture centered on professional expertise, collaboration, flexibility, and providing our team with opportunities to learn and grow.
We're looking for motivated accounting students to join our Tax team for the 2027 tax season. This is a hands-on opportunity to gain real-world public accounting experience while working alongside experienced tax professionals and contributing as an integral member of our team.

What You'll Do
As a Tax Intern, you'll work under the guidance of our experienced tax professionals and gain exposure to a variety of tax and accounting engagements. Responsibilities may include:
•    Assist with the preparation of individual and business tax returns
•    Support tax, accounting, and other client projects as assigned
•    Learn and utilize the Firm's tax and accounting software and processes
•    Communicate with team members regarding assigned work and client matters
•    Work within established deadlines and time budgets
•    Maintain the confidentiality of Firm and client information
•    Develop professional communication, organization, and time-management skills
•    Participate as an active member of the Tax team throughout busy season
•    Gain hands-on experience using AI-powered tools to support tax research, prepare workpapers, better understand tax law, and assist with client engagements.

What We're Looking For
•    Current junior or senior pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Accounting; qualified sophomores with relevant accounting coursework may also be considered
•    Completion of foundational accounting coursework, with an interest in applying classroom knowledge in a professional environment
•    Interest in pursuing a career in public accounting
•    Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn
•    Professional, positive attitude and strong communication skills
•    Ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines
•    Availability to work a minimum of 30 hours per week, with flexibility to increase hours as needed during peak tax-season deadlines
•    Ability to work in-office at our Frederick, MD or Leesburg, VA location
We will work with interns to establish a consistent schedule around their academic commitments while meeting the minimum weekly hour requirement.

Where Can an Internship at D&S Take You?
Our internship program is designed to give accounting students the opportunity to put what they've learned in the classroom into practice. You'll work alongside experienced tax professionals, contribute to real client engagements, and gain a better understanding of what a career in public accounting looks like.
We also view our internship program as an important part of building our future team. Top-performing interns who are nearing graduation may be considered for full-time Staff Accountant opportunities following graduation, while students continuing their degree may have opportunities to extend their internship or return for a future season.
