Job description

Position Title: Inspector
Location: New York, NY and surrounding areas – 75% travel to project site

Salary Rate: 65.00 - 70.00/hr

Job Type: Full-Time

Reports To:

This position reports functionally Client Representative for functional/project oversight and CES Company Representative employment, performance management, and contractual administration.
 


Position Overview

The Inspector will be responsible for performing daily field inspections on NYC Department of Design and Construction (NYCDDC) pedestrian ramp projects to ensure the contractor’s work complies with project plans and specifications.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform daily on-site inspections of construction activities to ensure adherence to the project schedule, plans, specifications, and safety standards.
  • Prepare and maintain daily construction inspection reports documenting work performed, contractor labor and equipment, quantity of material received and verified, observed issues, and contractor activities.
  • Ensure materials, methods, and workmanship meet NYCDDC, NYCDOT, and NYCDEP standards.
  • Participate in coordination meetings and represent the inspection team as required.
  • Read and interpret construction drawings and specifications and identify discrepancies or conflicts within the documents.
  • Identify unsafe conditions, code violations, and site hazards; ensure corrective actions are implemented.
  • Document and report field issues or deviations from plans and communicate inspection findings to the Resident Engineer.
  • Monitor and enforce site safety requirements, including compliance with OSHA regulations and NYCDDC safety protocols.
  • Assist with quantity tracking, payment verification, and progress reporting.
  • Perform material sampling and testing to verify quality and adherence to project requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Civil preferred) from an accredited college OR an active NICET level II certification in Highway Construction Inspection.
  • Minimum of 5 years of construction inspection experience on NYCDDC pedestrian ramp projects.
  • Familiarity with NYCDOT, NYSDOT, NYCDEP specifications, MUTCD, and AASHTO standards.
  • Strong attention to detail, the ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications, and maintain accurate records and documentation.

  • MS Office

Soft Skills:

  • Detailed oriented and reliable, while demonstrating a high-level of interpersonal, diplomacy, and organizational skills.

Required Certifications 

  • Active OSHA Safety and Health, 10-hour

  • Active ACI Concrete Field-Testing Technician, Grade I
