Partnerships to Uplift Communities (PUC) Schools is comprised of a non-profit network of public charter schools designed to significantly increase high school graduation rates, college entrance, and college graduation rates for underserved students in North-East Los Angeles, and the North-East San Fernando Valley.

The Team Member we are searching for

The ideal Inclusion Assistant believes in and is passionate about the mission and commitments of PUC Schools and exhibits this through their leadership, reflection, execution of school culture, and collaboration to ensure student success. The team member will support the Inclusion Team in providing service minutes to support students with IEP's growth based on academic and other IDEA-specific needs. All PUC school students participate in full inclusion.

What you will need to accomplish:

Under the direction of an Inclusion Specialist, you will:

  • Understand school-wide student and staff expectations and actively support programming for student(s) with special needs who require support in the areas of academics, behavior, social-emotional regulation, and/or daily functioning skills
  • Implement data-driven push in academic support as an IEP Related Service (known as "RSP" services) in the inclusive classroom, including (but not limited to):
    • Providing direct support to students with special needs within the "inclusive classroom" individually, in small groups, or on a one-to-one basis as needed and directed by credentialed staff
    • Ensuring students with special needs have access to their outlined accommodations and supports within the classroom as outlined in their IEPs
    • Providing some small group pull-out support for the provision of assessments and/or targeted support under the supervision of the Inclusion Specialist and based on student's IEPs
    • Assisting with testing, classwork completion, homework completion, program reviews, reports, student files, schedules, and any other instructional program assignments
    • Assist with certificated personnel in the conduct of lessons and other classroom activities
    • Facilitating recognition of students who are successful in meeting academic, social, emotional, and behavioral goals
    • Promoting positive learning and reinforcing replacement behaviors
    • Prompting student learning and engagement
    • Engaging in de-escalation and redirection as needed
    • Assisting with behavior, social-emotional, toileting, and daily functional skills, if required
  • Build strong relationships with students and staff
  • Understand and implement the academic, behavior, and/or social-emotional support as outlined in students' current IEPs
  • Work directly with student(s)
  • Collect data on behavior for interpretation by Behavior Intervention Development (BID), Inclusion Specialist, and other charter staff
    • Compile multiple types of data records daily, weekly, and monthly
  • Record and track supports in Welligent on at least a weekly basis
  • Assist with IEPs as necessary
  • Direct all parent inquiries to Inclusion Specialist(s) and/or credentialed teacher
  • Attend and complete all required trainings as assigned by PUC, your site leader, and/or BID and Inclusion Specialist
  • Foster a safe and nurturing learning environment in collaboration with teachers and staff
  • Support an environment where students are excited about learning and preparing for college and post-secondary success
  • Build professional knowledge
  • Demonstrate support and knowledge of the school's goals and mission
  • Perform other duties as assigned

What do we require from you?

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Must complete 12 semester units and/or 18 quarter units and be currently enrolled for the same units or possess a BA/BS degree required
  • Prior experience working with students with special needs in a learning environment

Skills and Abilities

  • Proficient with Microsoft Suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Proficient in data collection
  • Strong math skills
  • Alignment with core characteristics required of every PUC employee: pursuit of excellence, innovation, community, tenacity, and authenticity
  • Knowledge of behavior intervention strategies
  • Knowledge of applied behavior analysis (ABA) principles and techniques preferred
  • Must be flexible and team-oriented
  • Able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred
  • Strong work ethic, accountability, and ownership of work
  • Regular attendance, dependability, and punctuality in conformance with the standards are essential to the successful performance of this position

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Occasionally required to kneel, climb, and reach with hands and arms above shoulder level, lift up to 30 pounds. To bend, sit, stand, squat, stoop, walk, push, pull, and reach with hands and arms at shoulder level or below. Always required to wear the appropriate safety equipment for the task, which may include gloves, goggles, aprons, belts, etc.
