Job description

The Assistant Day Camp Site Director is responsible for assisting the Camp Gordon Clark Director in the overall program development and the supervision of all staff. The Assistant Director is responsible for being actively involved in overall planning and on-site implementation of the program. During the months prior to the start of camp, the Assistant Day Camp Site Director is responsible for attending and being actively engaged in regular meeting and planning sessions with the Director of Day Camps. The Assistant Director is also responsible to assist with camper registration along with the Camp Registrar.

Principle Responsibilities May-August (20 Hours/Week until June 15th then 40 hours/week):

  • Assist the Camp Director and Day Camp Site Director in planning and implementing the entire camp program.
  • Assume the responsibility for the camp in the absence of the Day Camp Site Director.
  • Supervise Day Camp Coordinators
  • Assist the Camp Director in handling parents' issues and maintaining good working relationship with YMCA staff.
  • Assist the Camp Director and camp staff with discipline and behavior related issues
  • Assist in the on-site maintenance of accurate camper records, weekly rosters and camper attendance.
  • Assist in the camper registration process - processing payments, contacting families with missing information and proper data entry.
  • Assist in disciplinary actions involving both staff and campers
  • Assist in active communication with parents that may include dismissal from camp or behavioral related incident reporting
  • Oversee booking and arrangements for Camp Gordon Clark's Voyagers program (field trip camp)
  • Play an active role in the planning and execution of camp staff training.
  • Adhere to all South Shore YMCA day camp policies and rules.
  • Any additional tasks deemed necessary and assigned by Camp Director and/or Director of Day Camps.
  • Understand and abide by all policies and procedures outlined in the South Shore YMCA Information and Guidelines for all Employees.
  • Represent the South Shore YMCA in a positive and professional manner.
  • The YMCA will consider reasonable accommodation in accordance with the law.
