Job description

POSITION: Assistant in Training
REPORTS TO: Golf Course Superintendent
FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Assistant-In-Training reports directly to the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent(s). Under the Assistant Superintendent's supervision, the Assistant-In-Training leads small crews and participates in the maintenance of the golf course and landscape areas, including but not limited to greens, tees, fairways and cart paths. While conducting day to day maintenance, the AIT is learning and understanding the managerial decisions made to achieve necessary results. This is a key role in the department and the goal of the AIT is to eventually move into the 2nd Assistant Superintendent role when he or she moves on to the Assistant position. The Assistant-In-Training may serve in the 2nd Assistant Superintendent's capacity during his/her absence.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • This employee is a staff leader in the maintenance of greens, tees and fairways; and assists in training employees on the use of the equipment.
  • Operates and calibrates application equipment; participates in the operation and the maintenance of irrigation and drainage systems.
  • Strongly motivated to align and partner with the Assistant Superintendent and 2nd Assistant Superintendent to complete all tasks to the highest standards and achieve team goals.
  • May modify the daily work schedule based on professional interpretation.
QUALIFICATIONS AND RESPONBIBILITIES:
  • Currently enrolled in or graduated from a Turfgrass Management program or related program.
  • Working knowledge of the maintenance of golf course greens, tees and fairways; seeding and maintenance practices for golf course turf; planting, cultivating, pruning, and caring for plants, shrubs and trees.
  • Proficiency in computer use, knowledge of Microsoft Office and other applications as specified by supervisor.
  • Ability to work with and lead maintenance staff in small crews to achieve the most efficient utilization of workers and equipment; prepare clear and concise reports; and maintain effective employee and public relations.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.
  • Required to obtain current state certification or licensing as a pesticide applicator.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Frequent or occasional need to perform the following physical activities: grasping, finger dexterity, bending, pushing, pulling, twisting. Lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds
  • Standing and walking on various surfaces for an extended period of time.
PAY RATE: $23 - $24
