Job description

JOB SUMMARY
The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent position is responsible assisting the Golf Course Superintendent in the overall maintenance of the golf course and the common areas (clubhouse grounds, parking lot, etc...).
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (examples, not all inclusive)
  • Assist the Golf Course Superintendent by implementing all the programs and mowing schedules for greens, tee-boxes, fairways, rough areas, and bunkers.
  • Assist the Golf Course Superintendent with the maintenance of the irrigation systems.
  • Assist the Golf Course Superintendent in the application of pesticides, fertilizers, herbicides, and fungicides on the golf course - if the employee has the proper applicator license.
  • Assist the Golf Course Superintendent with the maintenance and repair of all the golf course equipment.
  • Schedule, train, and supervise the seasonal maintenance workers.

Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
• Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum 1 year of golf course maintenance experience preferred.
• 2-year turf degree preferred.
• Georgia pesticide applicators license preferred.
• Golf Course Superintendents of America Association (GCSAA) membership preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Must have some knowledge of proper agronomy and turf grass practices.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office software.
• Proficiency in all types of golf course mowers - including, but not limited to; greens mowers, zero turns, fairway mowers, gang mowers, and rough mowers.
• Skilled in handling multiple tasks at the same time.
• Knowledge of and/or the ability to learn occupational hazards and safety precautions.
• Skilled in operating a variety of hand tools and small/medium equipment, including but not limited to; weed eaters, chain saws, mowers, tractors, sprayers, and blowers.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS
This position works mostly in an outdoor environment. That will include some standing, walking, bending, and lifting items up to 50 pounds.
WORKING CONDITIONS
This position requires constant outdoor working conditions and frequently working around and operating many types of small and medium duty equipment. Position will require some flexibility of schedule that will include working some weekends and holidays, along with some occasional overtime hours.
