Position Description

Origis Energy is looking for a Head of Procurement to join our growing team. This person will lead an experienced team with the main objective of creating and implementing the procurement strategy and standards across solar PV systems and BESS components. The successful candidate will help to develop and implement best-in-class procurement to effectively maximize value in the development, construction, and operations project phases.

The Head of Procurement reports to the Managing Director Procurement and O&M and is a regular, full-time position eligible for our generous employee benefits package, including employer-paid heath insurance, paid time off, a 401(k) plan with employer matching contributions, and other great benefits.

*The position level and title is based upon relevant experience and will be determined by hiring team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the Request for Proposal (RFP) process, when applicable, for solar power generation equipment (including but not limited to solar panels/modules, transformers, trackers/racking, inverters, balance-of-system (AC and DC), switchgear); analyze bid results and compile bid evaluations.
  • Review analysis and evaluation of supplier product options and make recommendations for supplier and product selections, including quantifying and managing contractual risk with suppliers.
  • Negotiate and manage power generation equipment and service transactions for solar projects; manage the interdisciplinary team across legal, finance, development, operations, technical and other personnel.
  • Negotiate and execute master agreements and purchase orders in support of company projects.
  • Guide development strategies, relating to power generation and transmission procurement, from prospecting through financial close.
  • Maintain the necessary technical and administrative infrastructure to manage historical pricing across all projects and technologies; create forward-looking reports projecting price and technology improvements for all major generation equipment.
  • Assist with the project's financial close process, including providing copies of requested contracts (and exhibits) and compiling responses from OEMs and/or interdisciplinary teams to independent engineering (IE) questions.
  • Assist with the management of inventory and allocation of safe harbor inventory (e.g., solar panels, transformers, inverters, racking, other equipment) procured by Origis for qualification of projects pursuant to the Investment Tax Credit (ITC).
  • Develop and implement strong supplier development and supplier relationship management processes.
  • Monitor and evaluate the risk of geopolitical and regulatory initiatives that impact the supply chain and develop the mitigation and/or contingency procurement strategies.
  • Synthesis market intelligence with internally gathered intelligence to perform forecasts for major equipment

Preferred Qualifications and Experience 

  • Minimum of 10 years of related experience; experience in renewable energy equipment procurement is required
  • BS in STEM or MBA, or significant experience in technical procurement
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Deep understanding and ability to read, write and negotiate contracts; particularly contracting for large generation and related equipment
  • Strong product knowledge of PV & BESS technologies
  • Experience in global sourcing and international negotiations
  • Familiarity with the exportation/importation of equipment/materials
  • Experience with a solar energy developer or solar EPC contractor preferred
  • Experienced in financial analysis including price forecasting and reporting
  • Familiarity with evolving quality factors and major trends within the PV industry
  • CPSM or equivalent is a plus

Location - Austin, TX - hybrid in-office policy (3 days per week)

Travel - 25-33% travel as needed (1x per month, potentially 2x per month)

Job Level - Senior Director or Vice President (will have direct reports)
