Job Title

Geology Adjunct Faculty (Partโ€‘time)

Work Location

Virginia Western Community College, Roanoke, VA โ€“ Inโ€‘person at the main campus or hybrid (online lectures with inโ€‘person labs)

Salary

$793 โ€“ $1,278 per credit hour. Faculty rank determined upon credentialing.

Work Schedule

Hours and days vary based on course offerings and enrollment. Positions are appointed on a semesterโ€‘basis, as needed.

Responsibilities
  • Teach collegeโ€‘level courses in Geology.
  • Develop syllabi, learning strategies, curriculum, and assessments.
  • Maintain currency in the teaching discipline and trends in communityโ€‘college education.
  • Work with students of diverse abilities and backgrounds.
  • Participate in all Geology department communications.
  • Assist with other duties as assigned, including emergency support if required.
Qualifications
  • Masterโ€™s degree in Geology or a Masterโ€™s in any field with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Geology courses.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to write syllabi and exams.
  • Ability to develop learning strategies, curriculum, and assessments.
  • Capability to work with students of varied abilities from diverse backgrounds.
  • Doctorate degree in Geology (preferred).
  • Teaching experience at the college level (preferred).
