Job description

About this Job The Office of State Parks (OSP) serves the citizens of Louisiana and visitors by preserving and interpreting natural areas of unique or exceptional scenic value, planning, developing, and operating sites that provide outdoor recreation opportunities in natural surroundings, preserving and interpreting historical and scientific sites of statewide importance, and administering intergovernmental programs related to outdoor recreation and trails. This position is located at Fairview-Riverside State Park in Madisonville, LA. The purpose of this position is to perform essential duties that maintain the quality, appearance, and safety of the facilities and grounds of the state park.

This position will make repairs to and maintain buildings, facilities, equipment, etc., as well as ensure the safety of the guests and staff, and assist as needed with maintaining grounds such as mowing, pressure washing, trail maintenance, etc. Minimum Qualifications One year of experience or training in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or park operations and grounds maintenance; OR Six semester hours in construction management, construction technology, or engineering, or any combination of these courses. Job Duties and Other Information Job Duties: Makes general repairs to buildings, interiors, exteriors, furniture, fixtures, air conditioners, heating systems, and other mechanical and related fields such as plumbing, carpentry, electrical, and painting tasks. Maintains and makes general repairs to a variety of motorized equipment including tune-ups, replacement and adjustment of worn or damaged parts, and assembly of major components to determine the extent of damage and repairs necessary. Operates and checks for safety and maintenance of a wide variety of hand held equipment, motorized vehicles, tractors, etc.

Repairs and treats structures such as floors, showers, sinks, walls, roofs, carpets, etc. Performs minor troubleshooting, repairs, and adjustments of locks on doors, cabinets, desks, closets, etc. Performs routine preventative maintenance to ensure machines run smoothly, building systems operate efficiently, or the physical condition of buildings is maintained.

Operates large equipment to include but not limited to vehicles, utility vehicles, all-terrain vehicles, front end mowers, skid steers, chippers, tractors, etc. Assist with custodial duties to maintain clean and sanitary conditions in the facilities. This includes cleanliness of interior and exterior of facilities to include cabins, meeting rooms, pavilions, etc.

Duties can include sweeping, mopping, removing trash and linens; cleaning picnic tables, fire rings, porches, etc. Maintain grounds and trails to include trimming trees, clearing dead trees or branches, welding, fertilizing, road maintenance, etc. Position-Specific Details: Location: Fairview-Riverside State Park, in Madisonville, LA Appointment Type: Probational, Promotion, or Detail to Special Duty Career Progression: This position may be filled as a Maintenance Repairer 1 or 2.

Work Schedule: State Parks are open 365 days a year. Position will work a rotating schedule of 40 hours/week, which can include holidays and/or weekends as needed, to ensure coverage at the park. Travel: Position requires driving around the park as part of the daily shift.

Travel may be required to other state parks to assist in staffing or events, as needed. A state vehicle is available for employee use while on duty. How to Apply: No Civil Service test score is required in order to be considered for this vacancy.
