Job description

Controller – Electrical Contractor

Mooresville, NC | Direct Hire | $85k–$110k

Konik is partnering with a growing electrical contractor in the Charlotte area to add a Controller or Assistant Controller to their finance team. This is a hands-on accounting and project finance role supporting multiple facets of the business including construction project accounting, billing, payroll, and reporting. Controller Responsibilities

  • Lead and support the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial reporting.
  • Prepare and assist with monthly financial statements, management reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow monitoring.
  • Maintain fixed asset schedules, depreciation records, and other accounting documentation.
  • Review job cost reports, WIP schedules, project budgets, labor burden, equipment costs, overhead allocations, billing status, and estimated costs to complete to monitor project financial performance and margin position.
  • Oversee accounts receivable and billing processes, including AIA/progress billings, collections, cash application, and revenue tracking.
  • Manage accounts payable functions including invoice review, payment processing, proper coding, and job cost allocation.
  • Support payroll processing, payroll tax compliance, certified payroll reporting, and insurance/workers' compensation audits.
  • Identify accounting or project financial issues early and provide solutions to prevent overruns or reporting discrepancies.
  • Support improvements to accounting processes, reporting structure, internal controls, and overall financial visibility.
  • Collaborate with executives, project managers, field leadership, and vendors to ensure accurate, timely financial operations.

Controller Qualifications

  • Minimum 3–5 years of construction accounting experience; experience with electrical contractors or specialty subcontractors preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of job costing, WIP reporting, project accounting, billing, cost tracking, change orders, and labor burden.
  • Experience with QuickBooks required; other construction accounting software experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with financial reporting, Excel analysis, and interpreting financial information.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Hands-on, flexible, and proactive approach in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with confidentiality, integrity, and professionalism.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Interest and aptitude to grow into a Controller-level role over time.
