Summary of Job
The City of Beloit has an exciting employment opportunity in the Community Development Department as the Commercial Building and Electrical Inspector. This position is under the direction of the Planning and Building Services Division of Community Development.
The Commercial Building and Electrical Inspector is responsible for conducting commercial building and electrical inspections and related office work to secure compliance with municipal, state, and national codes and regulations governing building construction, existing structures, electrical installations and equipment, zoning, and flood plains. Inspection scope is primarily commercial, industrial, and other non-residential buildings and structures, both existing and under construction. This position may also assist with residential inspections under the Wisconsin Uniform Dwelling Code as workload requires. Works also involves plan review and enforcement to secure compliance with building, housing, zoning, floodplain, mobile home, and electrical codes and related ordinances. This position requires the exercise of considerable independent judgment, initiative, and professional responsibility.
Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
1. Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
2. A valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record.
3. Associate's Degree or trade school coursework in construction management, housing, electrical, or closely related field is preferred.
4. A minimum of two (2) years of building inspection experience required, preferably in a municipal government setting.
5. Current Commercial Electrical Inspector Certification from the State of WI Department of Safety and Professional Services (DSPS)
6. Current Commercial Building Inspector Certification from the State of WI DSPS
7. Current Fire Detection, Prevention, and Suppression Inspector Certification from the State of WI DSPS
8. Current Uniform Dwelling Code (UDC)- Construction Inspector Certification from the State of WI DSPS or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire
9. Current Uniform Dwelling Code (UDC)- HVAC Inspector Certification from the State of WI DSPS or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire.
10. Other combinations of training and/or experience which can be demonstrated to result in the possession of the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the duties of this position may also be considered.
