The Assistant Controller supports the integrity, accuracy, and operational effectiveness of the Company’s accounting and financial reporting functions across the enterprise. This role partners closely with Finance and Operations leadership to support timely financial reporting, manufacturing accounting, inventory oversight, audit readiness, and internal controls while helping drive operational discipline, accountability, and financial stewardship across the organization.  As Mama’s continues to evolve into a larger enterprise organization, the Assistant Controller plays a critical role in strengthening scalable financial infrastructure, improving operational visibility, and supporting disciplined business decision-making. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes to ensure timely, accurate, and audit-ready financial reporting
  • Prepare and review journal entries, reconciliations, schedules, and supporting workpapers
  • Support preparation of internal and external financial reporting packages
  • Assist with the preparation and review of SEC filings, including Forms 10-Q and 10-K
  • Help maintain compliance with GAAP, SEC reporting requirements, and Company accounting policies
  • Support manufacturing accounting processes including standard costing, variance analysis, and inventory valuation
  • Analyze production variances and operational financial trends to support improved plant performance and cost control
  • Assist in Bill of Materials (BOM) reconciliation and cost accuracy initiatives
  • Partner cross-functionally with Operations, Supply Chain, and Procurement to support financial and operational alignment
  • Oversee and support inventory accounting activities across multiple manufacturing locations
  • Monitor cycle count programs, inventory reconciliations, valuation accuracy, and inventory controls
  • Support visibility into operational KPIs and financial performance drivers at the line and plant level
  • Assist with identifying process improvement opportunities related to inventory accuracy, reporting, and operational efficiency
  • Coordinate and support external audit activities and audit readiness initiatives
  • Assist with strengthening financial controls, documentation, and compliance processes
  • Support ERP and financial systems initiatives, enhancements, and reporting capabilities
  • Partner with Finance leadership to improve reporting accuracy, scalability, and operational visibility
  • Maintain organized, accurate, and compliant financial records and supporting documentation
  • Support, mentor, and collaborate with accounting team members and cross-functional business partners
  • Translate financial and operational data into actionable insights for non-financial leaders
  • Foster a culture of accountability, operational discipline, teamwork, and continuous improvement

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
  • CPA designation Required
  • 5–10 years of progressive accounting and financial reporting experience
  • Prior public accounting experience strongly preferred, specifically auditing SEC manufacturing clients
  • Experience supporting manufacturing or food production environments preferred
  • Strong understanding of financial reporting, GAAP, internal controls, and manufacturing accounting
  • Experience working with ERP systems; NetSuite experience preferred
  • Knowledge of SEC reporting processes; Workiva experience preferred
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial analysis tools

  • Ability to remain stationary and work at a computer for extended periods of time
  • Ability to frequently use hands and fingers for computer, keyboard, and office equipment operation
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • Ability to review detailed financial information with strong attention to accuracy and detail
