Job description

BRIEF DESCRIPTION/ POSITION SUMMARY:
The set painter role involves painting scenic elements for the spring musical, working in close collaboration with the directors, production team and student crew.
 


  • Paint scenic elements
  • Supervise and mentor students in basic painting techniques.
  • Ensure all set pieces are safe, stable, and meet school safety standards.
  • Collaborate with the technical director on budgeting materials and managing build timelines.
  • Attend production meetings, rehearsals (as needed), and all technical and dress rehearsals.
  • Assist with strike (tear-down) after the final performance.
     

SKILLS: Ability to manage and inspire high school students with varying levels of experience. Organizational
skills and initiative for working with minimal direct supervision. Proven ability to manage a production calendar
and meet hard deadlines. Must show evidence of strong leadership and organizational skills.

KNOWLEDGE: Previous experience in scenic construction, carpentry, or theater tech preferred, Ability to read
and interpret construction drawings and scenic designs. Proficiency with basic power tools, hand tools, and
construction techniques and strong organizational and problem-solving skills Ability to lift 50lbs and work on
ladders or elevated platforms safely. Patience and enthusiasm for working with students in an educational
settings. Commitment to the production calendar, including occasional evenings and weekends.



ABILITY: Establish and maintain positive and supportive working relationships with all stakeholders to be flexible
and change as needed. A "team player" attitude to work closely with the entire production team.

Previous experience in educational theater or community theater production



Stipend Range: Head Level 2:  $1,727 - $2,893 depending on qualifications
