| Aspect | Assistant Exosome | Laboratory Technician |
|---|---|---|
| Required Credentials | High school diploma or equivalent; some roles may require specialized training in exosome isolation | High school diploma or associate degree; technical training often preferred |
| Work Environment | Research labs focusing on exosome research, cell biology, or molecular biology | General laboratory settings across various scientific fields |
| Employer & Industry | Biotech companies, research institutions, pharmaceutical firms | Hospitals, research labs, biotech companies |
| Common Search & Comparison | Assistant Exosome vs Laboratory Technician |
The main difference between an Assistant Exosome and a Laboratory Technician lies in their specialized focus. Assistant Exosome roles are centered on exosome research and require specific knowledge of exosome isolation and analysis, often within biotech or research settings. Job description
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA invites applications for an Assistant Project Scientist. This position is under the supervision of Associate Professor Marta Epeldegui, Ph.D.
The Epeldegui research laboratory focuses on studying the role of immune dysfunction and cancer, especially AIDS-associated B cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma (ARL). ARL remains a significant problem even in the era of combination anti-retroviral treatment (cART). It also studies how inflammation, microbial translocation, viral infections and other events may lead to lymphomagenesis and pathogenesis of ARL.
Applicants must possess a Ph.D. degree or equivalent in an appropriate biological field of study to apply. Candidates are expected to have a strong background in immunology, virology, molecular and cell biology and have experience with basic molecular biology techniques (RNA and DNA analysis, PCR, RT-qPCR, protein analysis, Western immunoblotting, and ELISA), flow cytometry, mass cytometry, exosome extraction and characterization from various sources (cell culture, human serum or plasma), and proteomics. The candidate must also have prior training and direct experience with sterile technique and cell culture of human cells (immortalized cell lines and primary cells), training and extensive experience with BSL-2+ laboratory practices, and must be able to work with clinical specimens, handle and process human tissue samples, and have experience with humanized animal model systems.
The incumbent will be expected to design and perform experiments; develop, adapt, and implement new research techniques and protocols; analyze and interpret results from large data sets (e.g. flow cytometry, mass cytometry, imaging mass cytometry, RNA-seq, and proteomics); mentor undergraduates and/or graduate students; assist in the preparation of grant proposal and manuscript publications; and have the ability to supervise multiple projects simultaneously.
The level of appointment will be commensurate with the applicant's qualifications. See Table 37B for the salary range for this position. A reasonable estimate for this position is $79,400-$83,700.
