Job Summary

The Hockey Communications, Graduate Assistant supports the day-to-day operations of the Hockey Communications department by assisting with game-day media operations, statistical research, editorial projects, and organizational communications. This position provides hands-on experience in professional sports communications while working closely with the Hockey Communications staff to support media coverage of the Philadelphia Flyers throughout the NHL season. This is a part-time, seasonal position for the 2026-27 season that will run through July 2027.

Job Description

Core Responsibilities

Game Day Operations

  • Attend all Philadelphia Flyers home games and assist with press box operations.
  • Assist with press box setup, media seating assignments, distribution of line sheets and statistical reports, broadcast booth coordination, and food and beverage service.
  • Assist with the preparation and distribution of season and single-game media credentials.
  • Help maintain media parking lists and parking pass distribution.
  • Compile and distribute postgame notes to the media following all Flyers games.

Communications & Editorial

  • Monitor and distribute daily media clips throughout the organization.
  • Prepare information sheets for team and league events for internal distribution.
  • Assist in compiling media reports following major organizational events, including the NHL Trade Deadline and General Manager press conferences.
  • Support the production and editing of the organization's annual Draft Guide.
  • Assist with annual updates to the team's NHL-required Media Guide.
  • Research player, team, and league statistics to support departmental projects.
  • Fact-check, proofread, and edit communications materials for accuracy and consistency.
  • Provide administrative and operational support to the Hockey Communications staff as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
QualificationsRequired
  • Recently graduated from College or University in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Sports Management, or a related field.
  • Strong written, editing, and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite as well as Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Acrobat, and Photoshop).
  • Knowledge of hockey and the NHL, including familiarity with hockey statistics and NHL media operations.
  • Availability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and all Flyers home games.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Drivers permit and access to a car or ability to use public transit to get between the Flyers Training Center Xfinity Mobile Arena.
Preferred
  • Previous experience in sports communications, athletic communications, journalism, or media relations.
  • Experience writing press releases, game notes, or editorial content.
  • Familiarity with hockey statistics and NHL media operations.

Salary:

Base Pay: $18.00
