What You'll Do
The Product Design Engineer will develop and maintain product designs for a defined group of customer accounts. Activities will include product design, Continuous Improvement performance goal attainment, new product development, and Engineering Change Number (ECN) control management.
Key Responsibilities
  • Creative product design through customer input.
  • Development of designs which can be manufactured and sold at prices which will return an acceptable profit margin.
  • Coordinate design activities within a cross-functional team environment.
  • Interaction with prototype technicians in designing and testing with Prototype Technicians store fixtures per needs of the customer.
  • Interface with Sales, Marketing, and the customer to accurately define and document the customer's fixture requirements.
  • Design product in cooperation with Manufacturing Engineering to ensure product can be efficiently manufactured with existing LA Darling capability.
  • Develop product designs which deliver customer satisfaction as measured by design success rate and product margins and utilize existing manufacturing process capabilities.
  • Meet personal CIP goal and assist in departmental goal accomplishment.
  • Manage and successfully complete on schedule assigned special projects and meet design activity timetables at a 95% compliance rate.
  • Integrate existing products into new designs where possible.
  • Facilitate product introduction by providing manufacturing support on the first production run and provide design engineering support to the manufacturing plant.
  • Meet goals of VA/VE processes assigned on annual basis.
