Job description

Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative has an immediate opening for an Assistant Building Services Engineer. The primary functions of this position will be to demonstrate the ability to manage maintenance and service contractors for facilities system repairs and service. Also serves as a backup in the absence of the Facilities Director. Manages defined Capital projects under the supervision of the Facilities Director as it relates to the Cooperative physical assets, including but not limited to HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical as well as office equipment and furniture, facilities maintenance equipment, MEP systems, etc.
This position requires an individual who:
โ€ข Demonstrates the ability to manage projects pertaining to building systems, including mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. Manages activities of facilities maintenance contractors. Coordinates with maintenance contractors to ensure compliance with NFPA, OSHA and other Federal, State, and local rules and regulations.
โ€ข Demonstrates the ability to proactively manage and coordinate inspections of buildings and grounds assuring the assessments of all facility equipment including elevators, fire alarms, generators, UPS, access control systems, and other critical business support systems are operating and performing efficiently and as designed.
โ€ข Communicate effectively with the business to ensure their facilities are maintained appropriately and performing as designed. Evaluate, and when necessary, assist in redesigning office layouts to ensure all safety and security issues are addressed.
Candidates are required to have a two-year college degree with experience/technical certification in mechanical, electrical, and plumbing trades. Building Automation Systems management experience and Project Management experience required.
Candidates are required to have a minimum of ten years progressive experience in facilities services, Facilities maintenance and repairs, Project Management, supervisory and budgeting experience required. Knowledge of safety, security and environmental regulations and building codes are also required.
The starting salary range for this position is $83,000-$107,600. SMECO offers an excellent benefits program including 401(k) 6% dollar-for-dollar match and additional 3% non-elective company contribution.
