The Town of Scarborough is seeking a full-time Assistant Town Engineer to join our Engineering & Technical Services Department. This position assists in the administrative and technical work related to construction oversight, civil engineering infrastructure design and planning, technical studies and long-term plans, as well as development review.
Overall responsibilities for this position include: searching for and administering grant opportunities, overseeing Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and contracts, project development, administering projects from planning study stage to construction completion, facilitating technical assessments and studies, reporting to Federal and State agencies, navigating grant reimbursement protocol, assisting with FEMA recovery projects, and managing new smaller initiatives utilizing in-house staff. In addition, this position requires a high attention to detail; excellent organizational skills; and the ability to communicate clearly in verbal and written formats.
Position Requirements: Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university or college program. An individual who has obtained their P.E. license in the State of Maine and 10 years of experience is preferred, however an equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered for this position. General knowledge of the engineering principles and construction practices as they apply to the operation of municipal and private infrastructure, such as transportation and stormwater management is a must. Ability to effectively communicate with a variety of audiences, facilitate large group discussions, ability to prepare written reports, plans, maps, and illustrations and proficiency in personal computer use including word processing, database and spreadsheet software, presentation software, and engineering/design software. Proficiency in geographic information systems (GIS) is preferred but not required. Must hold a valid driver's license with an excellent driving record. Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the following knowledge, abilities, and skills may be considered at the discretion of the Town of Scarborough.
