Job description

Amentum is seeking a Junior Electrical Engineer to join our team in Mclean, Virginia. The Junior Electrical Engineer provides technical and administrative support for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of power generation and facility systems. Working under the supervision of senior engineering and operations personnel, this position assists with electrical system maintenance, preventive maintenance planning, documentation, regulatory compliance, asset management, and daily operational activities. The role combines hands-on engineering responsibilities with administrative support functions to ensure effective buildings and plant operations and maintenance. Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret or higher U.S. Security Clearance. U.S. Citizenship is required to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance.
Essential Responsibilities:
Engineering & Technical Support
  • Assist in the operation, monitoring, troubleshooting, and maintenance of electrical equipment associated with power generation and facility infrastructure.
  • Support preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities for electrical systems.
  • Perform equipment inspections and assist with condition assessments.
  • Review electrical drawings, schematics, and equipment documentation for accuracy and updates.
  • Assist in root cause analysis of equipment failures and recommend corrective actions.
  • Support commissioning, testing, and startup of electrical equipment.
  • Coordinate with operations personnel to minimize equipment downtime.
  • Monitor electrical system performance and identify opportunities for improved efficiency and reliability.
  • Participate in plant shutdowns, turnarounds, and maintenance outages.
  • Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.

Operations & Maintenance Support
  • Assist with planning and scheduling maintenance work orders.
  • Coordinate with maintenance technicians and contractors during scheduled work.
  • Monitor maintenance backlog and track completion of assigned tasks.
  • Verify completion of maintenance activities and maintain accurate records.
  • Assist in managing spare parts inventory and equipment records.
  • Support development and implementation of preventive maintenance programs.
  • Prepare equipment history reports and maintenance performance metrics.
  • Participate in routine facility inspections to ensure safe operating conditions.

Administrative Support
  • Maintain engineering files, technical documentation, and maintenance records.
  • Prepare work orders, purchase requisitions, service requests, and material requests.
  • Assist with vendor coordination, contractor documentation, and procurement activities.
  • Update computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) with equipment data and maintenance records.
  • Prepare reports, spreadsheets, presentations, and engineering summaries.
  • Track maintenance budgets, equipment expenses, and project costs.
  • Schedule meetings, inspections, and maintenance activities.
  • Maintain document control for electrical drawings, operating procedures, and technical manuals.
  • Support regulatory reporting and compliance documentation.

Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • 0-3 years of engineering experience in power generation, industrial facilities, manufacturing, utilities, or facility operations.
  • Internship or cooperative education experience in industrial or power systems preferred.
  • Fundamental understanding of electrical power systems, motors, generators, transformers, switchgear, and protective devices.
  • Knowledge of preventive maintenance principles.
  • Basic understanding of electrical drawings, one-line diagrams, and schematics.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Familiarity with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) is preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret or higher U.S. Security Clearance. U.S. Citizenship is required to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or ability to obtain.
  • Familiarity with NFPA 70, NFPA 70E, NEC, OSHA regulations, and electrical safety practices.
  • Experience with SCADA, PLCs, or industrial control systems is desirable.
  • Knowledge of power plant equipment and facility management systems.
  • Experience with AutoCAD or electrical design software is an advantage.

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:
Typical office and industrial power plant environment with no unusual hazards, occasional lifting to 50 pounds, constant sitting while using the computer terminal, constant use of sight abilities while reviewing documents, constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication, constant mental alertness, must possess planning/organizing skills, and must be able to work under deadlines.

Compensation Details:
$90,000 - $110,000
