Position Summary

Viking Dredging is seeking a reliable and safety-focused Deckhand to support our marine and land-based construction operations in Palacios, Texas. This position primarily assists equipment operators and field crews in executing dredging, shoreline protection, and marine construction work. The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, attentive, and comfortable working around heavy equipment and in a marine environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist equipment operators and field crews with daily construction activities
  • Support placement and installation of materials related to marine and shoreline construction
  • Handle rigging, lines, and materials during operations
  • Assist with positioning and movement of equipment, pipe, and materials on land and water
  • Perform basic equipment and site support tasks as directed by supervisors
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas, vessels, and job sites
  • Follow all safety procedures and comply with company policies and OSHA/EM 385 standards
  • Participate in daily safety meetings and job briefings

Qualifications

  • Prior construction, marine, or heavy civil experience preferred
  • Experience working around heavy equipment is a plus
  • Mechanically inclined with strong situational awareness
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Dependable, team-oriented, and willing to take direction
  • Valid driver's license preferred
  • TWIC card is a plus (or willingness to obtain)

Work Environment & Schedule

  • Outdoor work in marine and construction environments (barges, shorelines, job sites)
