Assistant Dock Manager – Catering Operations

Location: Everett, MA
Job Type: Full-Time

About the Role

We are seeking a dependable and hands-on Assistant Dock Manager to support our catering transportation and delivery operations.

This role works closely with the Dock Manager to help coordinate drivers, delivery routes, staging, labeling, vehicle readiness, and daily dock operations. The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, and able to adjust quickly when schedules or delivery needs change.

This is an active, on-site position that requires strong communication, teamwork, and a willingness to step in wherever needed to keep deliveries running smoothly and on time.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with daily transportation and delivery operations for catering orders

  • Support driver scheduling, route coordination, and delivery assignments

  • Ensure orders are properly staged and ready for dispatch

  • Verify food, equipment, supplies, and quantities before deliveries leave the facility

  • Communicate with drivers regarding routes, delivery details, and schedule changes

  • Coordinate with kitchen, production, catering, and sales teams to ensure order accuracy

  • Help maintain adequate driver coverage for daily and high-volume delivery schedules

  • Assist with last-minute call-outs, schedule changes, and delivery adjustments

  • Support supervision and day-to-day direction of drivers

  • Help ensure drivers follow company policies, safety procedures, and delivery standards

  • Monitor vehicle cleanliness, safety, and readiness

  • Assist with coordinating vehicle maintenance, inspections, and repairs

  • Ensure food is transported according to proper food safety and sanitation standards

  • Assist with training drivers on delivery procedures, food safety, and company expectations

  • Help resolve delivery issues such as delays, missing items, incorrect orders, or customer concerns

  • Ensure drivers have accurate delivery instructions and required documentation

  • Assist with checking labels and ensuring catering orders are properly identified before dispatch

  • Maintain delivery, vehicle, and operational records as assigned

  • Help identify opportunities to improve routes, loading procedures, and overall efficiency

  • Provide operational coverage and leadership when the Dock Manager is unavailable

  • Maintain an active presence on the dock during loading and dispatch periods

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required

  • 2+ years of experience in transportation, logistics, catering, food service, warehouse operations, dispatch, or a similar environment preferred

  • Previous supervisory or team leadership experience preferred

  • Catering or food service experience is strongly preferred

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills

  • Ability to manage multiple drivers, deliveries, and deadlines at the same time

  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills

  • Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and customer service

  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced and changing environment

  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office

  • Experience with routing, scheduling, dispatch, or fleet management systems is a plus

  • Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record

Schedule

This position supports a catering operation, and schedules may vary depending on business needs.

Availability for early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays may be required.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods

  • Ability to work in a dock, warehouse, kitchen, and delivery environment

  • Ability to lift and carry catering equipment, food, and supplies as needed

  • Ability to assist with loading, staging, and checking deliveries when necessary
