Job description

NOW HIRING: Millerbernd Manufacturing is hiring a Director of Engineering to join our Transportation & Infrastructure (T&I) team! The Director of Engineering (T&I) is responsible for directing goals and strategies for the professional engineering & product design teams. They will internally coordinate efforts for successful product development with customer care teams. Externally customer facing, especially with departments of transportation, electrical contractors, specifiers, and committees. Internally support supply chain and operations teams, contributing to scalable manufacturing methods.

$141,000 – $173,000 per year (Exempt role)
(In compliance with Minnesota Pay Transparency Law, this range reflects the anticipated compensation for this role. Actual pay may vary based on experience, education, and other factors.)

As a Director of Engineering, you will:

  • Engrain yourself in the industry through committees and conferences
  • Develop new, and maintain established, communication channels through which customers can readily contact the company in coordination with customer experience team
  • Display strong leadership, team building, project management and delegation skills
  • Hire, develop, train, and build a high-performing team that effectively aligns with the established engineering standards and compliments the customer experience strategy
  • Development and standardization of effective design and calculation processes
  • Collaborate with manufacturing engineering and drafting team for effective capturing of shop build standards and incorporate into designs
  • Proactively advocate internally for solutions and managing the customer escalation process regarding DOT standards and specifications
  • Ensure design team’s effective communication with field representatives and distributors, in alignment with sales strategies
  • Facilitate individual and team growth through effective development plans

Role Qualifications as a Director of Engineering:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related technical field
  • Demonstrated experience with business-to-business product development, and/or business content or specification development in a technical setting. Other combinations of formal training and experience may be considered.
  • Knowledge and experience in CAD software, preferably Solid Works
  • Expert knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Strategic mindset and foresight in understanding product development and project management
  • Use effective and appropriate written and verbal communication skills both internally and externally, including; leading meetings, team activities, giving presentations, and resolving issues.
  • Problem analysis and problem-solving abilities
  • Strong interpersonal, networking, and influencing skills
  • Professional, detail oriented in their work, especially customer-facing
  • Confident, driven, and dynamic, producing high-quality results personally and within the team
  • Self-motivated and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Exceptional skills in math, including fractions, decimals, geometry, and algebraic concepts
  • Collaborative approach in team and individual settings, leading a high-performance team

Work Environment (office):

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit/stand; talk or hear; and use hands to finger, handle, or touch objects or controls.
