Job description

Lukas Equine Veterinary Service is looking for a full time certified veterinary technician or veterinary assistant seeking a career in ambulatory equine veterinary medicine.


The right candidate is a compassionate, highly motivated individual who is a hard worker with at least three years of horse handling experience. The individual should be able to work well under pressure and multi-task, all while being dedicated to providing the best care possible to our patients. The right candidate must have the ability to take initiative and anticipate procedural steps (with training). The veterinary technician or assistant will have direct patient and client interaction and will be expected to maintain a positive, professional, compassionate, and confidential attitude in all situations.


Lukas Equine Veterinary Service is a full service ambulatory equine veterinary practice servicing the northwestern suburbs of Chicago, Illinois. Lukas Equine’s mission is to provide the gold standard of diagnostics and treatment for their equine patients while maintaining compassion and building long lasting relationships between owners, their animals, and their veterinary team. Lukas Equine’s caseload includes all aspects of equine ambulatory practice including lameness, medicine, preventative/routine care, and emergency medicine.


Some duties will include, but not be limited to: being on the road with the veterinarian for the days’ appointments, handling all ages and breeds of horses (must know how to halter and lead and lunge a horse), prepping horses for appointments/diagnostics/treatments/lameness examinations/pre-purchase evaluations/all procedures, assisting in equine imaging (including radiographs), preparing and administering medications, and assisting with in field gastroscopy and endoscopy.

Must be able to lift equipment up to 50lbs in and out of the truck.


The job will also include some office work/invoicing/billing, laboratory work/blood work, maintaining equipment and inventory, and prepping and cleaning up after appointments.

Starting wage: $20-$25 per hour (the pay rate is commensurate with experience)

Full time position or part time position available.

Full time is 4 days a week with 3 days a week off and no weekend work required.
